Persistent Off flavour/aroma driving me insane!

Not exactly, but it must have been infection/contamination. Once the new fridge arrived I absolutely blitzed my brew room. Pulled everything out and disinfected from top to bottom. Boiled and PBW'd all metal parts, and PBW'd everything else. Sanitised absolutely everything before moving...

Persistent Off flavour/aroma driving me insane!

Hi All, Next chapter in the story! I think that I have managed to identify the ferm. fridge as the issue. I made a nice simple smash beer and used a new and cheap bucket, fermenting in a cupboard in a different part of the house. Kegged last weekend, and have been drinking since last Thurs...

Persistent Off flavour/aroma driving me insane!

@DocAnna I thought so too, normally people seem to have a chance to drink at least some of a batch before the infection makes it undrinkable, wheras this has taken hold within a week! @samale That's a ludicrously simple test that I hadn't even thought of!! I have some pale ale malt, and a...

Persistent Off flavour/aroma driving me insane!

*just to add, I have never had a lag after pitching, fermentation has always started within 12 hours. This batch the voss was bubbling around an hour after pitching!

Persistent Off flavour/aroma driving me insane!

Hi All, It's happened again, that's four in a row. This time I'm using a brand new and meticulously cleaned bucket fermenter (and so it doesn't look as though the Fermzilla was the perp. as I suspected). I do think that I have pinpointed the point in the process where the infection has taken...

    Kveik Starter

Hi All, I'm using Kveik for the first time, and have a liquid pouch of WHC Lab Voss Kveik (Ragnar). I've read so much different advice on how to handle this. It's coming up to expiration, and so I'm planning to make a starter. The pouch says that its a direct pitch, and advises throwing in...

Persistent Off flavour/aroma driving me insane!

Cheers for all of your suggestions guys, I'll take @An Ankoù up on his yeast advice, if I can improve practices across the board it can't be a bad thing. @Dads_Ale No I haven't stored kegs with Chemsan, I fill and then push out shortly afterwards. As mentioned further up the thread though I...

Persistent Off flavour/aroma driving me insane!

I thought that I might retreat into extract territory maybe for the next one to keep things simple and less time consuming until I can get clean tasting beer, and will pick up a bucket and siphon so that I can keg and bottle to compare.

Persistent Off flavour/aroma driving me insane!

Hi Guys, Cheers for your help. For chilling I'm using the immersion chiller which came with my Brewzilla, attached to garden tap. I've been cleaning this with PBW alongside my Brewzilla after brewing, then on the next brewday I give this a quick wash and soak in a bucket of diluted chemsan...

Persistent Off flavour/aroma driving me insane!

Hi All, I'm a new member on here, and a new all grain brewer. I've done 3 batches so far, and each one has been plagued by a strange off flavour/aroma. It's hard to describe, I've read through a lot of the BJCP definitions of off flavours, and can't find anything that sounds like my...
