    I am about to move from the relative safety of Wine Kits and try to make wine from fruit and I have been trawling the web for recepies, of which there are many. All of the recepies I have found seem to point to a few weeks of making then a note to leave the wine bottled for at least 12 months...

    Thanks graysalchemy, I was aware it was something to do with UV but didnt know why. I take it, then, that this is the case for the "Tinned" kits aswell as brewing from a mash?

    Can anyone tell me why Home Brewed beer stored in "Clear" bottles will go Skunky if its not kept in the dark, but commercial beer does not?

    Thanks guys. I had heard that only returnable bottles should be used, and all others were not safe to use. Thanks for correcting this. :cheers:

    I am relatively new to Home brewing, and really enjoying the process, but am wondering; I have a number of "Beer" bottles from supermarket purchases which would normally go into the recycling bin, are these bottles safe to be used for my Homebrew?
