Can a malt mill be used to make bread flour?

Thanks for all the replies! The members of this forum really have a wealth of knowledge and I thoroughly appreciate your willingness to share. Given what you've said, I think we'll be forgoing the milling for now, but I am curious, why do (seemingly) so many homebrewers mill their own malt? Is...

    Secret Santa Reviews 2023

Finally got to this 4.2% California Common today. Opened with a strong hiss and poured with a strong light head which lasted till the end. A nice amber colour and clearer than appears in the picture. It had a fresh, grassy? slightly fruity aroma with some bready/pale toast that carried through...

Can a malt mill be used to make bread flour?

Hi All, So I have been considering making the switch to milling my own malt for a while, and as luck would have it, my wife recently brought up the idea of milling her own flour for bread baking. Obviously I'm now wondering if I could be fortunate enough to please both her and myself with one...

    Secret Santa Reviews 2023

Annoyingly I've now come down with a bit of a head-cold/severe incapacitating man-flu. I have lovely looking California Common that's been staring at me from the back of the fridge for far too long, but I want to wait until I can smell and taste properly again before enjoying it!

    Secret Santa Reviews 2023

My apologies to my secret Santas for taking so long to post my reviews! It's been an uncommonly busy Christmas with young children and hosting family from overseas. I finally got around to drinking the 4.2% milk stout on NYE. It was delicious! A very slight hiss on opening, and no head despite...

I'm curious as to whether these yeasts are single strain, or if they are mixed cultures, as found in the traditional farmhouse brewing. I've asked the seller, but no response yet. Do you happen to know?

I've decided to risk it for a biscuit, and gone for Gausemel and Jovaru. Looking forward to trying them out! Did you make a starter as the seller suggested or just bung it in? Also curious if you managed to save any yeast from your first batch?

Nice! Sounds like a good time! I'm thinking of having a go with some kveik so trying to get a feel. Might pop over to ebay then, cheers!

    Secret Santa 2023

Hi @Alastair70, I can see that I have missed the deadline, but as it looks like you mentioned Tuesday, I thought I'd try to Indiana Jones roll into the Secret Santa for 2 bottles! No worries if I am too late, but thought I'd try!

    Secret Santa Reviews 2022

Apologies to my Secret Santas for the very delayed review! I was very blessed to recieve three great beers! The first to be drunk was the "Six States NEIPA" This was a fantastic beer, opening with a strong hiss and well carbonated with a head that stayed till the end (which to be fair wasn't...

Adding Roasted Barley to the boil? Dry Irish Stout

So, I am planning on brewing a Dry Irish Stout, something like a Guinness. One of the recipes I've seen in looking around calls for the roasted barley to be ground up extremely fine (powder) and added at the start of the boil... I've never heard of this before and wondered if others had? What...

    Bottles bubbling immediately after priming

Cool, thanks! I was hoping that was the case but I guess I normally miss this due to adding the priming sugar to the bottling bucket.
