Total keg newbie - few questions about corny ball lock kegs

Hi Fil, That's great, thanks - lots to think about and digest. One thing I'm not sure of is I can go out and buy a "co2 supply, regulator, gas line, beer line, and a tap, but the bit which would confuse the hell out of me is what kind of connectors/adapters I need. Are there certain kinds of...

Total keg newbie - few questions about corny ball lock kegs

Hey, I picked up a couple of ball lock corny kegs ages ago. No other equipment and no idea what to do really. For now I will probably only have one keg connected at once, although I do like the idea of being able to have both kegs connected in future and having them at different pressures...

5L 'Mini Keg' questions & potential drawbacks!

Thanks, looks interesting but I'd be interested in asking some questions to anyone who has used them, e.g.: - Can these deal with keg carbonation or will they not hold that kind of pressure over longer term? Or is the idea that you don't bother with priming and just carbonate using the CO2...

5L 'Mini Keg' questions & potential drawbacks!

Cheers, the top of looks sort-of OK, but would ideally want to connect it to this: as I've already got one, and the connector on the link you posted just seems to be smooth plastic?

5L 'Mini Keg' questions & potential drawbacks!

Fair point - and if it's free (i.e. I've provided it for people to drink on holiday), I guess it's not the end of the world to be drinking semi-flat beer on day 3... That's a thought, can the top be re-sealed maybe when not in use? Might squeeze an extra day out of it if you can pop the seal...

5L 'Mini Keg' questions & potential drawbacks!

Cheers. I was hoping for something cheaper which literally just injected CO2 (at the right pressure) into the top of the keg, allowing you to just use the built in tap at the bottom. In my mind that should be cheaper as you're not duplicating the functionality of the built in tap.

5L 'Mini Keg' questions & potential drawbacks!

Hey, I'm getting fed up of bottling and I'm wondering about upgrading to use 5L mini kegs, at least for 'easy drinking' beers like summer blonde ales etc. Probably still bottle the big IPAs/imperial stouts etc. Just wondering... has anyone tried them out? I'm wanting these *purely* for things...

    No-chill container recommendation?

I'm intrigued by the concept of Aussie-style "no-chill" cooling (despite being a vaguely inaccurate term) as it looks like a really handy way of cooling without using ****loads of water / spending a lot of money on copper tubing, and also will split my brew day across a couple of days, when I...

Gas burner, canister/tubing/fittings advice + availability

Further to this, as an example, this http://www.leisureshopdirect.com/caravan/gas/product_33631/gok_50mbar_regulator.aspx says it's suitable for 'propane or butane'. Does that mean I can use it on a CalorGas butane cylinder?

Gas burner, canister/tubing/fittings advice + availability

Ah, fair enough. If that's the standard, are there higher pressure non-standard regulators you can get for butane...?

Gas burner, canister/tubing/fittings advice + availability

Hey, I'm actually more confused now as I had decided to just pick up a 4.5kg CalorGas Butane cylinder (4.5kg for storage space, butane for safety reasons) but I was just going to get the 29mbar regulator which Calor recommend... but, based on what you're saying, the flames using this regulator...

Gas burner, canister/tubing/fittings advice + availability

Well yes, the availability of indoor calor gas heaters was the argument I used with my girlfriend... My grandma had a calor gas heater in her kitchen for about 30 years with no ill effects! She's popped her clogs now... (unrelated causes) Any ideas for why butane can be stored indoors but...

Gas burner, canister/tubing/fittings advice + availability

Ah, thanks - I'll look at those regulator/hose combos. Do they fit any canister or are there different fittings for Calor Gas vs. alternatives?

Gas burner, canister/tubing/fittings advice + availability

Hi, On a whim I bought one of these a few weeks ago to use with my 50L stock pot, after realising my gas hob in the kitchen can only just manage to boil 15L of wort at a time: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008 ... em_1p_0_ti However I am struggling to find both a) clear advice and b) a...

I'm also keen to find a UK source of this stuff! Any good?

Right yeast for sweet cider, e.g. Thistly Cross

Looking good so far. The cranberry juice has given it a strange orange/pinkish hue... very interesting looking if nothing else! I was planning on adding some additional apple juice around now but there probably isn't much room left in the FV. How long does a "TurboCider" usually take to...

Right yeast for sweet cider, e.g. Thistly Cross

Thanks for that. I actually decided against the additional sugar - I should have specified in my initial post, but nailing the flavour is more important to me than the percentage. It went in the cupboard last night at 20C with just 3.25L cloudy apple juice, 500ml cranberry juice and half a cup...

Right yeast for sweet cider, e.g. Thistly Cross

Sounds like I might need to pick some up if I make this again, cheers. Right - I've got all my ingredients together now including the Harvest MA33 yeast and a 500ml bottle of cranberry juice "drink" (that's all they had at the local Sainsbury's, hope it's ok). I had the foresight to take them...
