    Wine question re supermarket juice

Thanks for the reply. It was cleaned very well, or so I thought with plenty of soap and water, then sterilised with Chemsan at the required dosage. I have given it a good shake and it seems to have settled down now with some vigorous bubbling. Thanks again.

    Wine question re supermarket juice

Hi Newbie here, even at the tender age of 66. I started some supermarket juice wine whilst waiting for a wine kit to arrive. Been through lots of videos and web pages so apologies if this has already been posted here. Used this recipe and went through the steps as instructed 1 litre Red grape...

    Loads of froth

OK, took the top off the King Keg and peeked inside. Everything is as it should be, tap is tight. However, I think I have found the answer. It looks like there should be a rubber O ring on the underside of the lid which , in my case, is missing. Presumably I can buy one without having to buy...

    Loads of froth

Thanks for the info Terry. Appreciate it. Unfortunately it is a King Keg with a top valve. The first brew I made in it, a Stout, was just fantastic but this second brew had the problem as described. I will try as you suggested tomorrow and let you know the result. Cheers.

    Loads of froth

Thanks for the reply. Are you saying I should be using one of the larger gas cylinders as currently I am using the small ones which are a bit tricky to control and only seem to inject for a second or two? Cheers

    Loads of froth

Question from a newbie here. Someone recommended an IPA kit which I dutifully brewed as per instructions. Fermention went as normal, then I kegged it and left it for a couple of months in the garage. First few pints were fine but thought it needed a bit more time. The next time I tried, it was...

    Whiskey or Vodka Kits

You've obviously never tried Inlander Stroh rum (80%). My mum's family is Austrian and they all drink it over there and the last time I checked none of them have gone blind or died from drinking it. My mum is 90 next year.

    Beer in bottles

Thanks guys for the info. I started off with a Beaverdale Merlot kit before Christmas, again followed all the instructions very carefully but from the outset it had a horrible sherry-like aftertaste, there was no hint of fruit at all. Took a sample to my local brew shop and he agreed. However...

    Beer in bottles

Thanks proost. I'll keep it tucked away in the garage then. I thought I had made a mistake by leaving too much space in the tops of the PET bottles. I left about 2 inches as I was worried about the stuff exploding but I guess they are designed to withstand a lot of pressure. I put in the...

    Beer in bottles

Yes I did that with the Coopers Stout, maybe that's why it smells and tastes better. Thanks.

    Beer in bottles

Hi everybody. Semi-Newbie here. Started brewing again after having a go about 30 years ago without too much success. Now I have the time, decided I would revisit the hobby.Made my first batch of Coopers English Ale several weeks ago, followed all the instructions exactly and bottled it on 7th...
