    St Peter's Christmas Ale

Good recommendation. A beer to my taste entirely.

    Old Barnsley Brewery demolished :-(

End of an era. Maybe its time to set up a new brewery then John. You brew it and I'll drink it. ;) Any idea what they are going to use the site for? I can't see Barnsley FC expanding just yet.

Is Beer Still Beer without the alcohol?

I completely agree. I had the same discussion with John (Barnsley Brewer) and the trend toward throwing more hop varieties at beer. Occasionally it works but I've tried numerous IPAs this year with progressively more complex hop mixtures and it doesn't work for my palate unfortunately but I'd...

Is Beer Still Beer without the alcohol?

I've been having a discussion with friends and colleagues about societal attitudes towards people who drink alcohol and those that don't, and the pressure that people sometimes feel if they are not drinking alcohol for whatever reason. At this time of year, unless you have a very accommodating...

There are still quite significant changes between the day and night temperatures. Day time has been as high as 10C and at night fallen to 0C or below. From what I've read of technical spec of both fridges and freezers the optimum working temperature for a fridge is above 10C which means if its...

    first extract brew(wheat)

I got 34 x 500ml bottles so a very similar amount. There was a lot of sediment so I lost about 2-3 litres but I guess its quality not quantity.

    Pittsy's Hefe

Another one to try is the Tucher Hefeweizen which is (was) available in bottles at Wetherspoons pubs. Not dissimilar to Erdinger but a little sharper. This is a vague recollection from some 2 years ago.

    first extract brew(wheat)

SG was 1045 and FG as of 5 mins ago 1010. Relaying a floor at moment otherwise I would be bottling now. I bought a big pan so could boil the full 19L then took about 3 hours to cool down sat in bath of cold water. Wort chiller high on my desirable list.

    first extract brew(wheat)

Sorry didn't notice chronology. I started mine earlier but looks like you've caught up. It'll be interesting to see what taste profiles emerge if we bottle at different times. As this is my first extract brew I'm happy with the results so far and have learned a few valuable lessons. Put Wyeast...

    first extract brew(wheat)

About to bottle the exact same kit tomorrow. Tried a sample on Thursday night straight from FV and the taste was great. I've left it in FV for 2 weeks (as of tomorrow) as the yeast was very slow to start. Even though I bought the Wyeast I didn't unwrap the pack and left it in a cupboard for 2...

What's the Best Thing You've Ever Brewed?

Having gone through a bit of a brewing frenzy over the past 6 weeks having made 5 kits lat night I tried a bit of a Bavarian Weissbier which is still in the FV. This was made from an extract wheat beer kit I bought off Brew UK. Despite having a few issues with the yeast and getting the wort to...

What's the Best Thing You've Ever Brewed?

I'm starting the realise this question is like asking what is your favourite food. I'm not asking that though before the pie and chips and cake answers start appearing. There is some commonality in that pale ales are mentioned a few times, there is a lot of advocacy for all grain. Thank you...

Anyone tried brewers spring beer kit?

I'm just about to bottle a Brewers Spring Pilsner. I followed the instructions to the letter. Added the bentonite (something new for me) and the dry hops. After 7 days transferred to a pressure barrel whilst filtering out the dry hops as a few smaller bits had been in suspension rather than...

What's the Best Thing You've Ever Brewed?

No consensus so far but an indication that brewers are creative and eternal tinkerers. Two reasons that attracted me to brewing at home.

What's the Best Thing You've Ever Brewed?

From my own very limited experience it was a Munton's Santa's Winter Warmer kit which I made 2 years ago. Tasted like a strong version of Sneck Lifter at 6.7% Had a great primary fermentation and racked to a pressure barrel. All was going well and it was conditioning nicely in my garage for a...

What's the Best Thing You've Ever Brewed?

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere but I searched for best brewed or best beer brewed and didn't find a thread so here goes. As a relative newcomer with only 15+ brews to my name I'm interested to know what you consider to be the best thing you've ever brewed? This could be a kit, an...

    The Best Equipment Investments

Interestingly (for me at least) I've got an extract Weissbier in the FV right now. It was slow to start as I didn't realise I needed to keep the Wyeast in the fridge, serves me right for not checking the kit contents. Thankfully I didn't kill off all the yeast as my kitchen now smells of...
