    Under pitching Saflager w34/70

Well last night was my second recorded 1020 so decided to give it a stir. Lunchtime today it had dropped to 1014 so I'm pleased again now :) Rob

    Under pitching Saflager w34/70

I have a lager fermenting away at 12oC with Saflager w34/70, but without realising I only pitched one packet. It started last Saturday at 1053, and this Sunday, 8 days later its on 1020. Should I be worried that I only pitched the one packet? I appreciate it will ferment slower at 12oC and I...

    AG#32 Coriander Pale?

Great, thanks guys. That's what I needed to hear. I was in two minds hence asking the question. Think I'll go back to the drawing board unless a wise one has already experimented and can confirm it being a worthy brew :) Thanks Rob

    AG#32 Coriander Pale?

I've been having a poke around a few of my books and sort of fancy the idea of trying ground coriander in an ale, due to its apparent citrus orangy taste. Has anyone tried it in a standard pale ale? I was thinking of trying the following, and i would welcome your feedback. 4.5kg MOPA 0.3kg...

    My Kegerator build

Hi Carl, I have the exact same fridge I want to turn into a kegorator at some point. Without the gas cylinder in the fridge, can it hold 2 or 4 kegs? Thanks Rob

Building Shiny - Questions to the Wise ones!!

My current plastic setup has a 3kw element with thermostat removed and works great, so two in a 100l pot should be quite substantial. Do you know if NO stock pots would accommodate them? Just a concern with sealing them on a curved steel surface. There was no problem on my poly bin as it just...

Building Shiny - Questions to the Wise ones!!

Thanks aleman that was the answer I was looking for regarding gas, if the pots are no good for it then electric it is. Just need to decide on elements then. Still unsure of using the tesco value elements, even though they can save a load of money. Rob

Building Shiny - Questions to the Wise ones!!

Thanks for the update BB, a lot of guys use the tesco value elements but I'm just not sure about them. Do you bring to the boil on both, then turn one off? I've been doing a lot of reading over at theelectricbrewery.com and they use, I think, comco 5.5kw heating elements. They look great and...

Building Shiny - Questions to the Wise ones!!

Thanks BB, thats what i'm looking for to be able to produce 15 gallon of 5% ale. How do you heat your 100l Boiler, and how long does it take to bring to the boil? Rob :)

Building Shiny - Questions to the Wise ones!!

It currently takes me approx just under an hour to bring 50litres of 50oC wort up to the boil with a 3kw immersion heater, so if you boiled 90-100 litres of water from cold to boiling in an hour and fifteen then that seems much faster to me.

Building Shiny - Questions to the Wise ones!!

Hi RD never throught about induction heaters, but to be fair i'm looking to speed the whole process up so induction heaters may not be as fast as i would like. FB i'm definitely interested in your results. Where have you sourced your pots? I was thinking of Nordic Optical due to cost and a lot...

Building Shiny - Questions to the Wise ones!!

Hi guys, I'm currently putting plans together to move to shiny, and probably going down the Nordic Optical route. I currently have a 60l plastic boiler so think it will be best to grow to a 100l boiler and HLT. I dont know what to do regarding the Mashtun, whether i go for a 60l or 80l...

    Spring PAle - Om IPA

I brewed a 46l pale ale that was bittered with 60g of bravo and aroma'd with 100g of NS. It turned out to be a cracking pint that everyone who tried loved. Unfortunately can't get any more NS at the right price else I'd be making it again. The only change I'd make is reduce the bravo bittering...

    NZ Hallertau

I love the way mad goose has turned into something completely different. That's what I end up doing. Rather than using all my hops up I have a freezer full of small quantities of hops. One day I plan to make a brew with them all, just for the gamble. Might be nice, might loose all the aromas due...
