    Out of date kits

Dang, I've also got a few packs of safale yeasts which are out of date. What a waste! Cheers for the advise. I'll get some yeast from my LHBS or even make up a little starter in a bottle conditioned beer.

    Out of date kits

Hi Folks After an almost 2 year absence I am now able to get back into brewing. I've got a couple of of kits and yeast which I didn't use first time around, although now they're out of date. Will these be ok to use or will the kits have degraded over time? I'd like to start up again with...

    Kilner Bitter Kit

I've just put one of these on. Brewed to 23L but I added 500g light spraymalt which brought the OG up to 1.048. I also swapped the kit yeast for a pack of S04 which is bubbling away nicely under the stairs. I imagine I will dry hop this after a couple of weeks based on the comments above. Will...

    Name that beer!

I think as long as it'd your own recipe you can name it! My latest efforts include: Unholy Virgin - Christmas beer Lunar Lander - extra pale ale Blonde Moment - blonde ale But with a house refurb on the cards I think I'll be doing kits for a little while!

    TESCO and ASDA Beer offer.

A QUID for SN Torpedo? Is this offer still on? I've just driven past a bloody Tesco

    Asda kilner sale

I picked up 2 bitters and a cider today for £7 each, bargain. There doesn't appear to be any lager left. Note that the cider is dated March 2017 but the bitter is dated either May 2016 or May 2017. I noticed that 2 of the May 2016 kits have started to ferment in the bag. That's going to get...

    Brewdog at Tesco

£1.75 is pretty good but Morrisons are doing 4 x 330ml cans for £5.43, or £1.36 a can. I know cans are very fashionable at the moment but I definitely think that highly hopped beers like Punk and Dead Pony taste much fresher out of a can.

BIAB Starter Kit (Peco Boiler, Chiller, Mashing bag, Mash Kit)

I take it all back. I'm seriously considering this as it's such a bargain!

    Impulse Buy

Toying with the idea with going full-length BIAB and this set up seems to be the mutts nuts, but it's also the most expensive! Might start small with that Peco deal on the other thread and if I'm enjoying it move across to induction when I can afford it.

BIAB Starter Kit (Peco Boiler, Chiller, Mashing bag, Mash Kit)

That looks an absolute steal, but do you get what you pay for with these Peco boilers? I've seen around the net that they struggle to get a boil.

    Airlock — need or not??

I have recently abandoned the airlock for many of the reasons already described. :thumb:

    5 Weeks in FV

I'm not sure, I ditched the box ages ago! I've had a nightmare on this one  I presume it's 1010 but I think I've only ever had 1 beer get this low, with most settling at 1012/1014 which I attribute to my poor temperature control. But I've never had bottle bombs, I've never really...

    5 Weeks in FV

Just checked again and it's dropped to 1014, my previous 'no effect' comment referred to visible activity, so the extra yeast must have done something! It tastes ok, although I'm no expert. Might as well bottle it! Relocated the FV For bottling tomorrow.

    Brewery Tours

I can also recommend the Bristol Beer Factory tour which is very close to the town centre. They popped open two casks and let us help ourselves :D Cool "tour" (it's not really a tour as the whole brewery is in one room) and a free branded glass to keep.

    Brewery Tours

I've just recently done the Wye Valley Brewery tour. Good tour and unlimited sampling, they had 3 beers on. The only issue is that it's a bit out of the way so you'll need a driver. Could easily tie in with a weekend in Hereford.

    5 Weeks in FV

I brewed a Wilko Golden just before Christmas and after 3 weeks in FV it had hit 1018. I didn't take original gravity but knew it should drop a few points. I pitched an extra hit of Wilko yeast to encourage fermentation with no effect. I've been working away quite a bit so this has just...

    Britains next top brewer

Sounds quality! Although I think scheduling would be difficult... at least on bake off or masterchef they can sample the finished product straight away. It's a lost cause, anyway. No main stream channel would get away with promoting alcohol consumption, even though obesity is a huge killer...
