homebrew does have a shelf life , in some of the books i have you are looking at anywhere from 9 months (wheatbeers) to around 5 years but most are around best before 2 years at least thats what my info states (this is for beers)

I've still got a box of my earlier brews set aside, oldest there is an IPA bottled 4/10/10 :thumb:

The other box I had set aside was opened at Christmas, which contained bottles back to 24/9/10 :!: pleased to report the content of all the bottles were excellent

Stronger ales above 7% will last a long long time and need a few years to reach peak. A 4-5% ale will taste better after about 6-8 months and may well last 2-3 years but at some point they will reach their peek.
