Just managed to squeeze in a glass of my Camden Amber ale before the bank holiday steak...... and that French red to accompany.
Cheap compared with prices for cru Burgundy in UK.

That's what you get for €20ish when there's a Carrefour over the road.
Heaven on Earth.

Leftover lamb biryani tonight while listening to the footy and drinking an Extra Stout, tend to get carried away with sport so one stout ended up as three.

Footy team won 106 -30 away, a great result, so a couple of the original American IPA's Ballantines XXX Pale Ale. An American friend of mine tells me that originally this was a 10% ABV beer initially. From what I have read it was just over 7% mine is around 6% but now it has been in the bottle a while tasting very nice. No citrusy hops in those days bittering hop was Cluster.
Looking through history there was a healthy trade of beer from the UK crossing the Atlantic to the USA and hops from the USA going to the UK.

Decided it was time to test the Biere de Guarde (wasn't planning to do them all in one go).

From left to right is Huey (Blonde, spelled wrong on the label), Louie (Amber), Dewie (brown) and the base brew which I assumed would be like a lager.

Started with the lager which was flat. I'm assuming that I didn't put any sugar in when bottling, it was a massive bottling session. So I need to check another.

The blonde was really nice, the Missus approved "Very drinkable" and was surprised when I told her it was 7.7%.

I did the brown next as it was the lowest ABV of the three at 5.9% (probably below spec for a BdG). Tasted nice, thick mouthfeel. Needs to mature, though, I think.

Decided to save the Amber until tonight.
