6 points and £200 fine if caught driving and using your phone, the fine is still too low but the points may finally stop these idiots doing it, I drive a truck so get a view of people in cars most don't, you would not believe how many of these idiots I see every day using phones, is the call or text really that important the answer cannot wait until the next safe place to stop?

I had a fool hit me at the lights wile he was on the phone
So have to agree.

I saw a bloke this morning driving a flat bed lorry turning a right hand corner whilst using his phone, quick beep of the horn and pointed at him and his face just contorted in absolute rage because obviously he is entitled to do that and put everybody else at risk with an HGV.
it's the sheer anger if you happen to point out even to someone driving along with their kids in the car that astonishes me. It should be zero tolerance for me, caught once and banned, it' s effectively driving a vehicle with absolutely no physical or mental control or awareness.

This applies also for those who think that it's really cool to get a takeaway coffee, even from home, and hold it up for everyone to see whilst drinking every few minutes. I can't remember ever during my 15 minute commute to work any occasion where I thought "I MUST have a drink of tea right now"
What is that all about?

Totally agree with this. When I'm out cycling I constantly remind myself that everyone on the road with an engine is driving/riding a potential deadly weapon, and cycle accordingly

I don't think you should be allowed to use a phone while driving even if it is hands free, it has been proved you are not concentrating on the road while having a conversation so for me it is a blanket ban on using phones while driving.

I am with you if you have a cup of hot coffee in one hand you are not in full control of your vehicle and do you really need to drink while you drive?

By that logic people shouldn't be allowed to speak to passengers while driving... hardly enforceable.

consider yourself lucky with such a short commute time then!

If you are deep in conversation on your phone you are not giving your full attention to what is going on around you, when talking to a passenger you are both aware of what is going on around you.

Until someone makes it illegal, I shall continue to have conversations on the phone while driving using my factory fitted Bluetooth with voice activation...

We actually got to places on time and didn't come up with crappy excuses as to why we wouldn't/didn't keep to our commitment

Lol, thanks for calling me an idiot Chipper.

It's legal to talk on a Bluetooth connected device, so what's the problem? If you don't want people to use them don't fit the technology...

Should I stop using my traction control? My electric windows? My seat belt? Hell they are very dangerous in certain accidents...

I didn't call you an idiot the idiots are the one that text while driving, you have explained you use voice activated hands free and while that may be legal i will stick to my belief that people need to concentrate 100% on their driving.

Bluetooth/hands free devices are only 'legal' because of the major investment not the technology - if you remember years ago they were going to ban it but the lobbyists stopped that - with the potential loss of revenue as well it wasn't too hard to persuade the government to stop it becoming 'illegal'.
