I scavenged real ale and cider bottles from parties over a 12 month period, also bought hoegaarden and saved these. I've invested in some 2 litre spring water bottles from tesco, think they were 12p each or something :geek:
I added 1.5 kilos of spray malt and 500g of brewers sugar to a 2 can kit of Heavy, also added yeast nutrient and 3 packets of yeast to get the thing down bellow 1012, took a while to ferment too :D
The results were drinkable, very malty but with a strong alcohol taste. I think it finished...

Is it possible to force carb a youngs pressure barrel? I've got the one that takes the CO2 bulbs on the lid but I thought that was just to push the beer out?

Hi, I'm going away for a week at the end of August and I want to take a pressure barrel full of my home brew.
I'm planning to do the brew next week, leave it in the FV for 2 weeks then put it in my pressure barrel.
So, if I put the barrel in my car to transport it to my holiday location will...
I think people just look at the enjoyment they get from making and drinking home brew and don't really see all the **** that goes with doing it professionally. I guess a lot of business is like that though. It seams there should be more effort put into marketing than actually making the stuff...
Ive got an 11g packet of Danstar Nottingham yeast and the wort I want to pitch into will be around the 1085 mark. According to http://www.mrmalty.com/calc/calc.html I need 19 Grams of dry yeast, which i don't have. Ordering another packet of yeast will cost me £6 because of crazy postage prices...
