The thick black line on my hydrometer is at 1,000 if it is the same for yours your beer has finished fermenting. The brews I have done so far have all finished between 1,000 and 1,016
If you don't have a air lock people don't usually leave the lid sealed so the CO2 that is produced can escape since if it is sealed there is a chance the lid can pop off and leave the FV wide open. The problem with not having it sealed is it can risk contamination. A very low risk but it is...
Thanks for the replies guys. I don't have much room so the fridge is out and I think icepack might make it a little too cold but that is a good idea for the summer when it is over 30 degrees. I'll try immersing the FV in some water with a old sheet since that makes sense as the sheet would sweat...
I want to do another brew in a couple weeks (a stout) but it will probably get hotter then it is now. I don't have air conditioning so how could I keep my FV cool? It's a plastic fermentation bucket.
My main issue then would be trying to stop any of the hops floating at the top getting into my pressure barrel. I want to get as much of the liquid in there as possible. Also since I should hop at max 3 or 4 days at these temperatures does that mean I should transfer it to my pressure barrel...
Instead of using dexterous I have used 1.25KG of Muntons Beer Enhancer. It is a mix of Dexterous and DME. I added slightly more than the usual 1KG to get a slightly higher ABV. It's originally 4%
Gravity reading is 1.044
It has come with some additional hop pellets. "Nut Brown Hops". It says...
Yeah I think I will and see how it goes thanks for the replies. The shop where I buy all the stuff is out of LME and DME though and I didn't want to wait to brew want to start it today before it is too hot so I got some of the Muntons Beer Enhancer which I think is 50/50 Dexterous and DME so...
I'm not sure I fully understand. Are you saying that for primming (carbonation) if I usually use 80g of white table sugar I should use 2300g of unrefined cane sugar?
Nice one thanks mate. I've only done two brews so far and I used dexterous so will be interesting to use some LME picking some up tomorrow as I will be starting my next brew tomorrow :D
