I’m not the world’s best brewer but my word I nailed this one. Just had my first bottle tonight after a February brew, it’s still got 4 weeks before it is fully conditioned. Delicious.
Brewed this in Feb for the first time. I’ll be honest, I’m not exactly nailing this BIAB hobby but my word, this has turned out to be a superb homebrew.
Hi All
I’m researching whether to sieve my whole hops out between the boil and fermentation or keep them in. The context for this question is a sharp bitterness than unfortunately accompanies many of my brews, no matter what IBU I’m aiming for. I am taking steps to lower my mash pH.
My two...
Hi All
8 brews into my new hobby of homebrew (brew in the bag). Having slight mare with latest batch. I think I was mashing at a lower temperature than my new temperature device was reading and ended up at an OG of 1029 instead of 1050. I was making an Amarillo pale ale. I used these forums to...
Just to follow up on this thread after many many weeks of waiting for the beer to come good. It was a disaster. The beer still tastes of ash, months after conditioning started. I am pretty sure this was down to scorched wort. The immersion element was black when I emptied the wort.
Oh well...
Hi All
I’ve received a recipe from Kent’s Cellar Head brewery. I want to do an amateur clone. Only issue is they’re specifying Ernest hops which are hard to get hold of and very expensive. Does anyone have experience of a good hop substitute? It’s for their Session Pale Ale which comes in at a...
Thanks, I find this really interesting. I’d always thought brewers would be very guarded. I used their chat function and they gave me a very warm reply saying they will ping me the recipe on Monday.
Hi All
I wonder, is there a clone recipe for Cellarhead Session Pale Ale? I’m thinking it’s based around the Nelson Sauvin hops for the gooseberry flavours.
Thanks
Thanks, also a scientist so I get it. My temps are cooler on top but up to 10oC hotter in the middle. And on the side of the heater with the element it is even higher. I’m trying not to overthink this as home brewing is meant to be my time away from my job so am tempted to just ignore it and...
Hi All
Am I over thinking this? I aim for a mash of 66oC plus or minus 2oC. This is for BIAB. Using my thermometer stick I get very different readings around my vessel which is a plastic Peco immersion heater. I stir it vigorously and for a few minutes the temperature seems more uniform. But...
