    Equipment Wanted 50L FV

Ideally available in the south west, but willing to travel a bit. If you've been thinking of selling yours, let me know!

    Ideal workbench height

I am fitting out the workshop space that came with the rental to use as a brewery, which means whatever bench height I want that suits me. How do I know how tall the bench should be? It will have on top a mash/boil kettle (changing for an AIO eventually which will be 67cm high, or 80cm when the...

    Inline water filter

I'm looking to get a filtration unit for my brewing water, but I'm not interested in getting a RO filter. My water is pretty decent so I just want to get rid of temporary hardness (some of it anyway), chlorine and anything that might negatively affect the wort. I'm basically looking to preserve...

    Actually heat resistant silicone tubing?

I need tubing for running my wort from my kettle to my counterflow, but it always kinks with the heat affecting the flow. How can I avoid this? Thicker walls? Specially coated tubing? It's very frustrating.

    Alder smoked malt?

Is there any way to get hold of this in the UK? I can only get bacon flavou-sorry, beechwood smoked malt, and oak smoked. The latter might be nice but I'm really curious to make an alder smoked malt beer, especially using kveik yeast, but not exclusively. Are there other wood smoked malts like...

    Mash tun without submerged element?

It seems there are two options for mashing, AIO or kettle elements that go directly into the beer. I don't want an AIO, for reasons, I want a mash tun, separate from my kettle, where I don't have an element submerged. Not only am I sick of taking it out and scrubbing it clean with steel wool...

    Conical fermenter below 5 gallon?

Do these exist? I like making 3-4 gallon batches. I don't need more of any one beer than that, but working with stainless steel and tri clamp fittings, this is what I'm comfortable with... I'll do plastic if I have to but I don't really want to. It's a shame they're so bloody hard to get hold of!

    Blowtie V2 spunding valve

So I have one of these but I haven't brewed in my conical in months and since I disassembled it to clean it I now can't remember... which post does the blowtie go on to act as a spunding valve? I saw someone say the gas post, but surely that is only for gas in? As such, it should surely only go...

Weyermann's Floor Malted Bohemian Pilsner Malt

Does anyone have much experience with this malt? I tried it once, but that doesn't give me much perspective. If anyone has used this 100%, how would you say it compares to 100% any other pilsner malt in terms of colour, flavour, aroma and fermentation profile (like, does it promote more sulphur...

Equipment For Sale 19L corny keg

I bought the 19L keg and tap kit from BKT for when I get a chest freezer to convert, however the keg is just too big for my needs, I'm really after a 10 or 12L keg. I haven't any gas to pressurise it but it works as it came from Johnny pressurised. However it has been cleaned and sanitised. I'm...

    Leaving in the fermenter?

I have ordered my first keg for my keezer, along with what I need to transfer. It's a fair bit of money so I'm having to wait until next pay day to get the gas as I'll have to pay the upfront cost of the bottle deposit on top. My saison is nearing terminal gravity in my fermenter, which is a...

    Sourness testing

Whilst I'm not a "sour boy", I do like a little sourness in some styles it can actually make a beer more mouth watering, a bit like how a touch of salt amplifies food. However, I don't want to go straight into souring yet, I want to determine what level of sour, and lactic souring seems the best...

Pressure barrel dispensing foam well at least

So my pressure barrel is at around 8.8 psi at a temperature controlled fridge held at 10.5-11.5°C, so somewhere between 1.7 and 1.8 volumes of CO2, not bad for a porter. My question is, what can I do when opening the tap to prevent just getting an embarrassing glass of foam that I have to wait a...

    inkbird being a little intense

I have the inkbird ITC-308 and I find it difficult to control the mash temperature with it, I'm probably setting the parameters incorrectly. If I want the mash temp at, say, 66C, I'll set the lower limit to 65 and upper to 67, as I don't want it cooling or overheating and failing to convert...

    Making a review

So it appears nobody who has bought the klarstein conical fermentation vessel (15L) linked below has done a review of it. I've never really reviewed anything properly before so I'd like to know if you were reading a review, what would you want a review into such a vessel to include? I know the...

How little in a 25L fermentation vessel?

So I bought a 15L vessel for smaller batches but ****** up the hole size and now it leaks, despite using larger silicone washers. I might be able to find a work around, but in case I don't I do have a trusty old (not that old) 25L FV, but of course there's a risk with a lot of head space (what...

    Brewfather

It seems like a fair number of people use this platform, so I thought it might not be a bad idea to have a sort of ongoing master thread that questions can be posted on (at this rate I can tell it's going to be me asking most of them). There's something I'm finding particularly confusing. With...

Wort chiller hose fittings, what am I missing?

I have a wort chiller coil (immersion type) with the following brass parts that relate to garden hoses which I can use for chilling... However since none of them screw onto the ends of my tube (9mm OD) I'm obviously missing some parts... but what? I don't want to get a whole conversion kit if I...

Ideal DIY mash and boil kettle size

So to save costs I'm going for a DIY mash and boil kettle so I can have something to brew with now rather than wait who knows to save up. My question is, if I'm filling a 10L pressure barrel, and using a 15L FV to brew in and fill from, would a 19L ss pot suffice to turn into an electric kettle...

    Getting a mash kettle

Should I get electric or gas mash kettle and boiler? I can see electric being easier to control, but gas is currently a third of the price of electricity, however this might change. Kinda stuck on what to do. I want a mash and boil kettle with a tap, thermometer and false bottom for BIAB but...
