    Wilko's Newkie Brown bottled

Ok so the last brew, Coopers Mexican, went horribly wrong (don't ask). So I went onto a tin of Wilko's Newkie Brown that I had spare. Brewed acording to instructions and brewed great. Really crazily strong fermentation. However, DOH!, made a mistake and used a 500g bag of extra dark spray malt...

    risk it for a biscuit?

The weather is finally starting to get better. Should I risk fermenting a Mexican Lager without a submerged heater?

    work out extract brew.

I have a recipe for a brew but I have no way of doing it from grain and need to know how much extract I would need to make it work. The grain bill is: 2.2kg 2-row pale malt 2.2kg white wheat malt 570g flaked oats 113g munich malt I am thinking I might get away with simply steeping the oats and...

    Champagne yeast in Tarwebier

Yo! Got given a AG recipe book that has a belgian Champagne beer in it. But as I can't get to doing an AG brew as yet I was thinking of trying to knock something up using a Brewferm tarwebier, some Champagne yest and some dried orange zest. Would this work or would I end up making a hash of it...

sediment on the sides of bottles

This might have happened from the start of my brewing experiences and only now noticed. But does sediment normally get on the side of bottles when maturing. I have a Woodford Wherry on the go and noticed it when I do my daily checks on my brews, I like to make sure my babies are fine after...

Beer finings and priming: what went wrong.

Hi guys. A few weeks back I made a Batemans XXXB clone. I used use protafloc with mixed results. However the primary fermentation went smoothly, using wyeast london ale, and I got 15l if nice looking and tasting ale. Now I then racked into a secondary, leaving as much of the sedement behinde...

    Coopers Carb Tabs.

Ok I know this is a much discussed thing but I was wondering what peoples real world experiences were with these things. My wife bought me a pack from Wilko's because she thought it would be easier than trying to measure sugar on a spoon. But obviously these things are designed for the larger...

    Wilko's brand beer kits

Been into my local wilko's today and noticed they are phasing out the youngs and muntons beer kits and replacing with their own branded stuff. At the moment it looks like there is a stout, newkie brown, pilsner, english lager and mexican beer. For the price of 1kg bag of wilko's brewing sugar...

    Ales and priming

Hi guys! Question for you all. I normally make fizzy beers but I decided to make a Batemans XXXB clone. Everything went fine and I used some finings at the end and I got a wonderfully clear beer. However I used half a teaspoon of dextrose, I had loads left from making a prohibition kit, and 4...

    beer angels weep

Today the beer angels do weep and the beer god thundered his mighty rage across the land. For today a terrible thing has happened. Bottle bombs have appeared. As I went to my beer hold I did notice something strange. A taint had appeared in my mighty brew. At first I thought it might be just...

How much of a protafloc tab to use and head retention.

hi guys! Been given some protafloc tabs, 10 of em, by a friend who ordered too many bags by mistake. Thye are unbranded appart from the the Brewuk logo on a stickie. Looking on Brewuk they say 1 tab will do 5 gallon of beer. But the beers I make don't come to 5 gallon. I tend to boil 6-10...

    mulled wine.

Hey guys! Just been to my local wilco's and got a wine kit they were welling off, replacing it with their own brand, and was wondering how to make mulled wine from it. I got the herbs and spices from germany last christmas and they are dried and in a air tight bag. Would I be able to add these...

    First Mead.

So a friend told me to stop by stormthecastle.com as they had a simple mead to try. He has made 4 batches of mead using the recipe given on the site and basically nagged the hell out of me to try it. So I did :) (If the colour of the mead looks a little off it's because the bottle it's in...

    First WOW type wine

Ok so it's not orange but basic principles. Got a WOW recipe off the net and used red grape juice plus pomegranate and blue berry fruit juice from asda. Seemed to go well and the taste of the mixed juices seemed nice enough. Only time will tell.
