I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the European lager comes with a lager yeast, so would benefit from the cooler temp.

Craigtube did a piece on this here, don't know if you would need to import tho. It's a device you fit when bottling and then remove when the beer is carbonated. Sorry it won't let me post the link because I am a new user, if you search youtube you should find it.
