    Taps

Put simply, can you live without them? Or does the humble siphon suffice? I recently bought the Wilkes screw top fv in the sale, sans tap. http://www.wilko.com/home-brew/wilko-fe ... vt/0075885 Now I really want to chuck one on. Has anyone done this and which tap have you put on. There seem to...

airlocks - the short, 2" space saving cylindrical types

I brewed up last night and used a new bit of kit. In the wilko sale, I bought a set of airlocks of the short and stumpy variety (2 inch barrel shaped jobs). I won't bore you with why, suffice to say that they were half price and the aim otherwise was to save space. anyways - so I brewed up last...

    Brewferm Oranje Bock

Bought this kit a while back as I love the sound of the brewferm range. Brewed it up just now. Waiting for it to cool a little before pitching. While I wait, am rehydrating yeast. Will do a hydrometer reading in a bit and post back. Cant wait for this to be drinkable! Also put my new bargain...

    Wilkos Bottle capper

Has anyone bought one and had any issues with it? I'm thinking of buying one, but have reservations as to the quality. Should i get a young's capper or does anyone recommend another brand/type? Thanks!

    Milestone Crusader

Wort is now outside my kitchen cooling before the yeast goes in. :thumb: After my can opener decided to stop working on me, using a fork dipped in sterilizer and lacerated fingers - it will now be known as "The Bloody Crusader" Off for a shower, then back to pitch yeast and bed!

    Art of Brewing - Excellent

I ordered 3 kits (at IMHO very competitive prices) yesterday plus some extra bits and pieces around 1pm. I spent just over the £49 mark, which entitled me to free delivery. I received my email confirmation promptly and by 5pm-ish a second email to confirm dispatch. My box arrived on my desk...

    Bottles from the Pub

I am thinking about going down to my local pub and asking them to save me a load of bottles - for obvious purposes. How many of you guys have tried this and had a good result out of it?? I only ask as my local is VERY busy, due to a recent refurb, (as such likely to have a tonne of...

Signs that the fermentation process is done.

What do people look for to check if fermentation is finished? I'm using a coopers kit FV - aus lager. So i cant really look for bubbles. In a nutshell - i pitched with the temp a little high 26-27 ish. 24 hours later good amounts of frothy madness appeared, krausen scum settling in the days...

    First brew started!

So after introducing myself last week, my coopers kit arrived and I whipped a little something up yesterday. It was supplied with Brew enhancer 1 (1kg), the standard lager tin (1.7kg). Everything seemed to go fine - although... being a noob, i had a few questions. 1. Water - i used tap. I was...

I wanted to say hi to everyone as i've just joined the forum. I hands down admit - that i am a complete novice in the brewing world :wha: However, I am VERY EXCITED at the possibilities. What I am not a novice in, is beer drinking... but then who on here isn't?! Which is partly why I am here...
