Brand new homebrewing club near Leeds

Horsforth to be precise. About 5 miles North of Leeds. Our 'Hop Shack' https://www.thehopshack.co.uk decided to get something going with an invite to homebrewers in the area. Last Thursday was the first meet up and there was a good dozen or so of us who turned up. All different levels of...

Another yeast thread... harvesting & starter

I know there are numerous threads already but just looking for advice. I've always used dry yeast till now, just had a crack at another NEIPA using a Yeast Bay Vermont ale liquid yeast. So I should have a go at harvesting this I reckon, right? Never done so before nor used a starter. Couple...

    Another go at an NEIPA

Last one I made didn't really fit the bill for what I wanted. A hazy, juicy NEIPA style. I've had a few email replies from a couple of established brewers in regard to the fermentables to use. Can anyone who has better knowledge and experience give comment on the grain bill below. Not sure if...

best place to buy yeast online?

My couple of local home brew stores don't offer much in the way of choice. I'm looking to experiment with the likes of Wyeast - London Ale III 1318. Does anyone know where best to order from without it costing an arm and a leg? Cheers

Have I 'ruined' the beer using this yeast?

Just brewed Strange Steve's NEIPA which was my best brew day 10 brews in. No issues , almost on the nose figures wise. I have tweaked the recipe slightly only in terms of one hop variety but most importantly the yeast I used. Dry hops gone in and krausen dropped. Its about there now...

    Big juicy IPA recipe required

Still on the upward steep learning curve and brewing all grain clone recipes before I dive into creating my own. Can anybody suggest a recipe to me that will achieve a banging, really hoppy, big juicy IPA please? I've got an unexpected day off work on Monday which let's face it is crying out...

Beer is nuts... or can be?

Totally in love with modern day stouts in all forms (good job as I'm judging January's Stout comp!). At the moment we can't get enough of strong imperial stouts, coffee.. chocolate etc, that are very dessert like. If you know what I'm talking about I'm thinking the likes of Siren's cake stout...

Couple of questions on the monthly comp...

I'm sure the answers to these are somewhere on the forum so apologies. Can anyone direct me to them if so or just a quick reply here? I'm submitting to the pale category this month. I have the judge's address. 1. regarding labels, can I attach a tag style around the necks of the 2 bottles...

    Rye IPA

Has anyone got a tried and tested recipe for a rye beer? I love the spice and tang of rye. How much to use etc? Currently drinking a lovely IPA by Odyssey Brew Co.

    Brewers friend. Discount?

Having reached AG brew no.8 I've finally seemed to have got results I was aiming for (volumes, gravitys etc). Brewers friend has been invaluable and I've wacked 5 of my recipes in there to help me. It seems to do the trick for me and I know there are a lot of similar helping sites/apps out...

    Buying labels for beer bottles

Anyone recommend purchasing from anywhere particular? cheap! I've bottled my first seven AG brews but only written on the caps in a marker. Now with the competitions looming and brewing for them I need to start labelling which I should do anyway. All ideas welcome. .😎

    Leeds International Beer Festival

Just wanted to pop this in here as this event is absolutely terrific. Been for the last couple of years and the whole thing is far and beyond a usual beer festival. Anyone who lives in or near to Leeds should grab a ticket for a session soon. They will sell out very soon. Especially Fri and Sat...

    Citra lovely Citra

Still on the learning curve and attempting brew no.8 soon. I have just received my citra hops and looking to do a hoppy easy drinking but tasty as hell pale. Could anyone suggest a tried and tested recipe to me solely using citra please or should I add a little bittering hop at the start too...

    'Seeds'? .. in my brew

Checked my Amarillo brews today and seem to have dozens if not more of tiny seed like particles in them. From the photo, ignore the whiteish foamy bits, inbetween there are little specks and these are they! Mostly on the surface but seem to be underneath too. Never had this before and I'm not...

    Blending beer... anyone done it?

Just wondered if this was something anyone has tried? I asked because I've made 2 batches of Amarillo pale. The first one I got wrong (in terms of volume/strength). It's going to be way too hefty in abv for a simple pale (probably about 8%). So I knocked up a second which will hopefully be a bit...

    That happy first bottle feeling

It's an obvious thread but the joy of cracking open that first bottle (if temptation has been resisted before it's 'officially' ready) and it's carbed up lovely, looks delightful and tastes wonderful! Just wanted to share in picture form my best brew out of 5 so far.. A clone of Mikkellers...

    Brewing decent beer, but...

.. more by luck than judgement maybe! My last brew fell way short of the (volume) mark and I simply need to know if I could have topped up with pre boiled water (is the technical term 'liquor back'?) I forgot to measure the pre boil gravity and I'm guessing it was way off given my...

    Goliat by To Ol

Not my next brew and maybe need to get a few more under my belt but I'm looking to go BIG soon and try produce something like this! [/IMG] Yep, big grain bill, high abv and IBU 'maggedon! Only thing Im not sure about is 'aroma malt' . Any idea anybody?

    Street party brew...

So, all grain brew no.5 needs to be a tasty belter! I planned to go all Amarillo as I've got the hops already to use up. And we've just been asked to get involved with a street party where we live, which basically means make and take beer Pete! I have done an amarillo pale before and it was...
