Hi all
New to brewing, done one Wherry Kit and an adapted Coopers which I have just Bottled.
I have the following ingredients left that I want to use on a nice strong Bitter

So can anybody advice a recipe

I have the following

1x 8lt stock pot
1x 300g light crystal malt
1x 500g dark crystal malt
1x 100g northern brewer hops
1x 75g Aurora hops

What else will I need and how will I brew it

Thanks Gazza

You could do something with those ingredients plus extract and yeast. If nobody provides a recipe I'll put something together later.

This should work out nice.

Batch Size (L): 23.0
Original Gravity (OG): 1.043
Alcohol by Volume (ABV): 4.22 %
Bitterness (IBU): 31.6

2.500 kg Dry Malt Extract - Light (90.91%)
0.150 kg Light Crystal (5.45%)
0.100 kg Dark Crystal (3.64%)

40.0 g Northern Brewer Leaf (8.8% Alpha) @ 30 Minutes
25.0 g Aurora Leaf (9.3% Alpha) @ 5 Minutes

1. Half fill the 8L pot with water, add crystal in a grain bag and steep at 60-70C for 20-30 mins.
2. Remove the grains and stir in 1kg of dried malt extract, you can use a whisk to get it well mixed in.
3. Add more water to about 2 inches from the top of the pot.
4. Bring to a boil and add 30g of Northern Brewer hops.
5. 25 mins later add 25g Aurora hops.
6. After another 5 mins switch the heat off.
7. Cool in a sink of cold water for 20 mins.
8. Pour into a sterilised FV, via a sterilised sieve (to catch the hops)
9. Stir in the rest of the malt extract thoroughly with a whisk.
10. When the temperature is down to 20C, pitch the yeast. An ale yeast, Safale US05 or S04, or Gervin ale yeast. Wilko sells Gervin.

Fantastic, Just what I was looking for
Excuse my ignorance but cant see when to add the Crystal Malt

Thanks Gazza

Not ignorant, I completely forgot it! Was rushing. Steep it in the water in the pot before you add any extract. Ideally the water should be 60-70C when you steep the crystal, for about 20-30 minutes. It's best to have a muslin bag or similar to put the grains in so you can take them out and then add the extract and bring to the boil. Or pour through a sieve to another vessel.

Morning
Thanks for the recipe, will definitely trying this in a couple of weeks
will let you know how I get on

Sorry to drag up an older thread... But Any news on how this turned out Gazza? I might try a version of this as a first mini mash type brew...
