Just a quick question about how to add DME to a kit brew.
It's been a while since I did kits, and I think I remember some problems getting the DME dissolved.

I'm doing a Coopers Stout, and adding 1Kg of medium DME, and maybe a little bit of dark sugar.
What's the best way to do this?
Just dump it all in the FV and mix until dissolved?
Or dissolve the DME in some water before adding?

Thanks

Hi M_TS,

you need about at least 8 litres already in the FV, then stir like FECK and slowly pour DME in. There is an optimum temp as in if you stir into hot wort the steam starts clogging up the dme coming from the packet, whereas if too cold it's harder to dissolve. wort at about 30c I find is the best - warm the kitchen up first so you get less stream.

p.s. if your arm doesn't feel like its about to drop off, you're not stirring enough. wink...
