Ev's are heavier per equivalent ice so extra structural load leading to reduced time to fail - call me old school but more concrete required. Until safer battery chemistries lower weight vehicles are deployed the risks to the public will increase.

No they aren't

Tesla model 3 is the same weight as a BMW 320d
Tesla model Y is lighter than a Kia Sorrento

As for the big German luxo barge EVs, yeah they weight the moon, but how heavy is a landrover discovery nowadays? 2.7 tonnes if memory serves

I have been using 2 Jerry cans for 20 years and there is no crud in either.
You dont fill jerry cans every week and take the fuel out slowly like you do a car fuel tank.

As i have said its a personal choice if you dont think crud in the bottom of fuel tanks, fuel pumps sucking in air because the level of fuel is too low and overheating for the same reason carry on running your car on fumes the rest of us will carry on filling when it gets low but not too low.

I do agree that some ICE are just as heavy.
But current EV Tesla aside are heavier but they offer greater power outputs.
I went to look at the Hyundai Kona it's not that heavy but it's small tbh.
This will get better as bespoke EV platforms come in with the newer generation.
On a side note I see from 2025 EV are subject to same road tax as ICE

Yes with any injection system is not wise to run to the tank empty the high pressure pumps do not like any **** and blocked filters do as much damage nearly.
Manufacturers are generally good with their warning ie 10 miles left is normally more to protect against this. Or as its gets called designing out the weak link IE humans

I run a Toyota ICE and was looking at switching to the Toyota Cross hybrid but having watched lots of reviews about the new Niro and Kona hybrids i think i may now switch my allegiance i prefer the style of the Niro but there isn't much in it, the 7 year warranty is brilliant as i will probably keep it that long.

The new generation niro looks smart

No he doesn't.
It because operating systems are more greedy on resources & programmers are more lazy.

<Rant>
Perceived speed of running office 97 on a 200MHz pentium pro is no different & in fact sometimes faster than running office 365 on a 2400MHz i5.

Also modern website design is sh1t. Too much animated / video content (though video auto play can be disabled). High Res images when you will never appreciate that they are high Res unless you show them on a cinema sized image wall. But the worse culprit is the sheer number and size of JavaScript libraries they load, a lot of which are ad tracking (I'm looking at you Google) and frameworks of which only a fraction is used.

All programmers should have a 10 year old netbook / 5 year old phone on the test desk and be forced to ensure their product works at an acceptable speed on them.
</Rant>

Same sort of thing with all cars at the moment. The ad behemoth has essentially forced manufacturers to sell their cars on gadgets as apparently there is no mileage in reliability/maintainability or economy.
Look at historic electric vehicles in the UK, limited to milk floats, fork lifts & those 3 wheeled factory tugs. All mechanically simple & designed so you can change the battery every (guess) 10 years.
I can't remember the exact figures as it was eons ago. I did specify to our website builder that every page had to load in X seconds by those using a 33K modem. 56K was the new upcoming standard at the time but the majority of homies were on 33K. We were praised at the time for the snappyness of our website. it was W3C AAA rated? as well I recall.

TLDR : compact and accessible

Apologies: I should have added on average or in general whats the BMW E equivalent that would be a oranges to oranges comparision?

BMW 320d kerb weight 1455kg
BMW 330e kerb weight 1740kg

BMW 430i kerb weight 1735kg
BMW 440d kerb weight 1830 kg
BMW i4 e40 kerb weight 2050kg

BMW X3 2.0d kerb weight 1770kg
BMW X3 3.0d kerb weight 1820kg
BMW iX3 kerb weight 2180kg
In the interest of fairness tho all the above models have been converted to EV rather than design from scratch that would be a more fair comparison I believe

you can only buy what's infront of you. until clean slate designs are introduced by legacy manufacturers this situation may persist.

e.g
My wifes 2018 ICE weighs 975kg kerb weight. it does about 280 miles on a full tank.
fiat 500e which is a bit smaller.... 1365kg range upto 199 miles.

The french have been alright with lightweight ICE cars but the germans have always had lardier offerings when I looked to get a new car saxo 1.1 vs 1.2 vw fox about 180kg difference. I always look to get the lightest suitable car for a size. That usually means better economy handling etc.... Thats why I've bought Japanese since 2002

The mini is even worse. It's like a 2 tonne tiny bruiser....

Clean slate design is much more efficient but not something the German and french gang have really got the hang of yet
The BMW i3 was built from scratch is is really light. It has a carbon fibre shell and all the panels are plastic.

Same fuel though. Doesn't matter if its filled regularly or not

We are going round in circles.
