Having a bash at the grape powder kit .Started off well violent fermentation slowed down and after 6 days then stopped .Took a reading and it was obvious it still had a lot to do. When I opened the lid there was a lot of scum on top so I cleared it to enable me to take a hydrometer reading .Closed lid again and tada ! started fermenting again. One for scientists then on here :) .Did the scum stop the fermentation ? or was it just coincidence I disturbed it which made it wake up again ?
 
Is this in a FV or DJ if its the FV you probably got a better seal when you put the lid back on, a lot of FV's are not airtight.
