The previous 2 brews made with this system have both been below volume and above SG after the boil. After liquoring back in the FV I've hit the correct SG and volume so I think the efficiency is ok at around 75-77% but I'm losing volume to either extra grain absorption and/or excess evaporation.

I've been a full volume BIAB brewer for years but never took much interest in these figures but after a break from brewing while getting building work done I got the Klarstein I've begun to take a bit of notice of them so If anyone has any ideas about how to avoid topping up I'd be interested to hear it.

To note the grain bill is 4.7kg and I'll mash with 27l at a ratio of 5.74 expecting absorption at 1l/kg with a sparge of 11 litre which should give a pre boil wort volume of 33.6 litre at 1040. With a 90 min boil and evaporation at 15% per hour I should get 26l at 1050 post boil.

Unlike others have reported I haven't had any cut out/overheating issues on the previous 2 brews. The strike temp I'll aim for will be 70c and I'll mash at 67c with the boiler set to 1500w to maintain the 67c with a mashout at 75c for 10 mins on 2500w and then a sparge while the wort gets to boiling.

Cheers,

Add what ever you top up after boil to your sparge ie if your sparge is 11 ltrs and your topping up 4 ltrs to get your volume sparge with 15 ltrs instead

Not really if your losing to absorption it means you will have more pre boil wort if through evaporation you will still only lose same amount through evaporation so will end up with more post boiled wort so no need to top up.
