AG 122 Coronation Spring Ale final taste test before community consumption

That will do nicely. Proper pleasant pint of beer and I reckon the neighbours will like it.

Mandarina Saison

I dont know why i keep buying this stuff, as its always disappoints and never ends up like its advertised - mandarina bavaria hops are supposed to be a punch mandarin orange. But i always find its nearly none existant. But this must be the 4th time i've bought the stuff thinking its going to be the bees-knees. lets see if I am disappointed again

3.5kg Maris Otter
50gm crystal 145ebc

18l mash at 65c for 60mins with a 5l dunk sparge in hot water for 15 minutes
Leaving 21l wort for a 60 minute boil and 17l in the FV.

Hops
15gm Mandarina @ 60 mins
25gm Mandarina @ 5 mins
20gm Mandarina @ 5 days

Yeast
mangrove Jack French saison M29

Bang on with an OG of 1.046, should be about 30ibu and 6srm. Expecting 5.5% abv, but NOT expecting a huge citrus hit :-(

Big Chocolate Stout

I know its not really a summer drink, but i discovered a packed of cacao nibs in the pantry and just had to do a coffee / chocolate stout
After doing a fair bit of reading i have gone for 20gm per gallon of cacao and a 5% addition of roasted barley and 2.5% addition of chocolate malt. On top of that I have added 40gm grounds of sumatran coffee to my espresso pot and made a 500ml cup of coffee which was added after the wort is cooled.
There are lots of theories when you should add the nibs, but i decided to do them in the mash.

4.5kg Maris Otter
50gm crystal 145ebc
200gm roast barley
150gm chocolate malt
100gm lightly toasted cacao nibs

18l mash at 69c for 60mins with a 8l dunk sparge in hot water
Leaving 24l wort for a 60 minute boil and 20l in the FV.

Hops
30gm EKG @ 60 mins
30gm EKG @ 5 mins

Yeast
lallemand english style London ale yeast

Hit the OG of 1.050, should be about 27ibu and 30srm. Expecting a session-able 3.9% abv, as this yeast has a low attenuation.
Should be a very hearty pint of beer with such a lot of flavourings, high mash temp and London yeast!

Nelsons Revenge

Been a couple of months and whilst from a technical point of view this is a successful beer, balanced hops V bitterness V alcohol, well carb'd at 12c and very clear - I still don't like it.

To 'grapey' or 'wine' flavoured for my liking
Won't do this one again.

That sounds like a nice and simple brew. I may well copy it and brew a few hop user uppers.
I've done quite a few variations of this type of brew and they always come out well, if a little one dimensional. Ideally I would have combined it with a second hop, but to be honest I was doing this in between calls at work, so I just winged it.

AG 128 - Amarillo IPA - Decided to jazz this one up a bit. so I have chucked in 25gm of Cascade in as a dry hop.
If for no other reason that giving it that extra dimension and aroma.

Progress Ale

Stocks of regular beer are getting low and I got some progress hops in my last HB order. I know progress is an evolution of fuggles, but i do find they have different aromas and i prefer fuggles as a late addition and progress as bittering. So this one is a mix of both hops

3.5kg Maris Otter
100gm crystal 145ebc

20l mash at 68c for 60mins with a 2l rinse sparge
Leaving 19l wort for a 60 minute boil and 15l in the FV.

Hops
25gm Progress @ 30 mins
25gm Fuggles @ 5 mins

Yeast
Notty's finest!

Hit the OG of 1.045, should be about 25ibu and 7srm. Expecting a session-able 4.6% abv for a pleasant evening in the sun beer

Summer Funk St Clements Saison

Summer time!!! Must mean I need to brew a saison then! Last saison I did used mandarina bavaria hops and whilst (as usual) they were overpowered by the saison yeast style, it was very pleasant and i was surprised by how quaffable it was. This time I am making it a hybrid funky-town mash up of what i have lying about and experimenting with fruit and upping the hops. This is being named St Clements, as its theoretically orange and lemon - but funky as it has coriander in it.

3.5kg Maris Otter
100gm crystal 145ebc

20l mash at 67c for 60mins with a 2l rinse sparge
Leaving 19l wort for a 60 minute boil and 15l in the FV. Back liquored to 19l for a more 'session strength' beer, as M29 is a monster.

Hops
15gm Mandarina Bavaria @ 30 mins
45gm Mandarina Bavaria @ 5 mins
1 Lemon peel (no white pith) @ flameout
1 tsp lightly crushed coriander seed @ flameout

Yeast
MJ M29 French saison yeast

Once liquored to 19l, I hit the OG of 1.040, should be about 30ibu and 6srm. Expecting a session-able 4.6% abv for a pleasant evening in the sun beer

AG129 progress pale
Nice marmalade notes of citrus and sweetness. Very happy with this one, just needs a couple more weeks to gel

Ag128 IPA is a failure
Well no, as it does taste nice, but for some reason the dry hop hasn't settled and it's been bottled and has loads of hop debris.

Kinda detracts from the niceness of the beer when you have a mouth full of hop

Gotta love a good saison yeast, hit target FG in 3 days flat! Spent the last 4 days clearing up after itself and just been bottled.
If i only drank saison and only used 1 bucket, I could theoretically make 80l of this PER MONTH!

I’ve made a few saisons, the yeast is the dominant flavour, I’ve used Sorachi Ace hops and a handful of Thai Kaffir Lime Leaves at the last 5 mins of the boil. Works really well with saison yeast.

wow. this is lovely! What a cracking pint of beer, really full of saison flavour with a distinct citrus hit and an undertone of coriander. Really really pleased with this one!

Summer IPA

My consumption is outpacing my recent brewing - no wonder i suffer gout - so time for the next brew and an IPA it is!
Pretty generic IPA that i have done before, but it goes down well and is a nice flavoursome pint on an evening

3.5kg Maris Otter
100gm crystal 145ebc

19l mash at 67c for 60mins with a 4l rinse sparge
Leaving 21l wort for a 60 minute boil and 16l in the FV.

Hops

Yeast
I screwed up. What i thought was a packet of verdunt IPA yeast turned out to be a london esb. That wont do!
As it happens i had some notty in the fridge from a previous brew and whilst this is NOT the right yeast, its better and cleaner than london esb, so it will have to do. Very annoyed at myself, but needs must!

However brew day went perfectly and I hit the OG of 1.046, should be about 40ibu and 8srm. Expecting a session-able 5% abv for a pleasant evening in the sun beer

Progress Pale Ale

Its been a while since i did a proper progress ale, and whilst it isnt a SMASH super pale ale, its still within the limits of "Pale Ale" in terms of colour etc.
I love a bit of progress, really good hop and very versatile as both bittering and late addition, if you havent tried it yet - then you really are missing out!

19l mash at 67c for 60mins with a 4l rinse sparge

LOL. I've just brewed one I called Summer Gold because we are back in a warm spell (plus I'm desperately hanging on to see if there is any summer left). My SRM was only 6, looked too pale when it had just mashed but looked quite golden in the FV.
