I've made a vimto cider a bit to strong I have a 20 litre batch thats practically down to 1000 of was 10.76 and now it's down to very much 1000 that's. 10.1% if I'm right . How could I get that down to about 7% could I add some more apple juice and some more vimto cordial and if so how much ? Or any other suggestions to make it a bit weaker

IF you add more AJ and Vimto without stabalising then it will just ferment the sugar. If you stabalise it to add AJ and Vimto then you will not be able to have a fizzy cider.

Alternativly you could brew a TC with 100% AJ then blend the two together to reduce the ABV. Alternativly serve it with some AJ or lemonade to reduce the ABV.

Water

But you will loose flavour. :hmm: :hmm:

I would go with Alans suggestion. :thumb:

How on earth did you manage that one :D

Even just to get it down to 8% you would need to add 10l of apple juice and wait for it to ferment out.

If you could split it into 2 batches it would be much easier. That way you could use the vimto as the base and add to it to get whatever %age you want :)

im not bothered about stabilising and having a flat cider, is there a way i can work out how much apple juice and vimto i need to add to drop 10.1% down to 7%

@scott
15 litres of apple juice,5litres of vimto, 550g sugar is how i got there lol

10.1% @ 20L
Apple juice to cider will work out approx 5%.

In order to dilute 20L @ 10.1 down to 7% you will need to add a fair old whack of apple juice.

10.1% per litre + 5% per litre = 7.55% per litre.

This means that you would need to split the batch between 2 vessels and top up with 10L of apple juice in each side. From there allow it to ferment out. if you wanted it as low as 7% you would need to shift the balance towards the TC.

13L of 5% to 10L of 10% = 7.2%

Up to yourself how far you want to go.

Just thinking here. Was it the concentrated vimto you added? If so then that is good for diluting approx 25L of water. That along with the apple juice would see me adding 5L of water without any worry. For 7% you would need to add 9 litres of water though. That might be a little too much watering down. Can't really tell though, have a taste and see what you think. If the flavour is overpowering then add water until it's not. Make note of how much water you add so that you can work out the ABV.

I have 10 litres of space left in my bucket
could i add 5 litres of water then use hydrometer to test % then add another 5 litres and test with hydromter ? to get required %
then maybe add a little vimto cordial for more flavouring ?

I would taste it and see what it's like. If it's strong, add 2L of water, stir and taste it again. Keep doing so till it tastes nice, not watery and not overpowering. Once you are finished simply multiply 10.1 by 20 and then divide by whatever your new total volume is to get the new ABV.
