I fancy doing a hobgoblin style clone for my 3rd AG, as I like a good strong dark bitter.
But I don't have any carapils, but hoping caramalt will do instead?

Can someone sense check my recipe below and advise if it's about right?

20l mash vol
3kg hook head irish malt
0.1kg caramalt
0.1kg crystal 120ebc
0.1kg red crystal 340ebc
0.1kg chocolate malt 1000ebc
Mash a bit high at 67-69c for 60mins

3l dunk sparge at 80c

Leaving 20l boil volume
20g fuggles at 60min
15k EKG at 30min
10g fuggles and 10g EKG at flame out
No chill to 80c and remove hops

Danstar notty yeast

Brewers friend has changed all its ingredients list and confused me, but I think it's right and comes out about 4.5% - 25 ibu and about the right colour - but would appreciate some assurance it's about right in style

Recipe looks fine to me. Right sort of proportions. The ABV looks quite high, what efficiency is this calculated at?

yes add some late cascade it will make a difference I've used it a few times and you get that tang that is in the background on the real thing

Seems there are 2 commercial version of Hobgoblin, 4.5% cask and 5.2% bottle - I went for the latter. This is the recipe I used after a bit of internet research, came out amazing: of my 6 or 7 beers stashed for Xmas this was the best. Note I have a relatively low efficiency (68%) so adjust grain volumes for your equipment's efficiency. Comparing to your recipe, this one has a lot more late hops but no flameout hops.
