Did only my second brew earlier today, a Woodfordes wherry. First gravity reading was 1.040, brewed to 23l but pitched yeast on the warmer side. Have started dropping the temperature. Noticed there is quite a lot of sediment at the bottom of FV already. Why and what would this be?

I did my first ever brew 2 weeks back and within 12 hours I reckon the sediment was 1-2cm deep. I assume it was just yeasty sludge as that's all that was at the bottom come end of fermentation.

I've done this kit 3 times and i'ts done the same thing each time ....... it starts off at quite a rate, so much so it dumps sediment on the active yeast and stops it dead!
A gentle stir on the 3rd or 4th day brings it back to life and it'll go for another week or more.
