All well and good when the worst the person commemorated in stone or bronze has done is have an affair or "six months for shoplifting". But the statue in Bristol was of a slaver. Hardly comparable.

What really boils my **** is the talk of removing Nelson from his column, because he "did not denounce slavery".
I have never demonstrated for/against anything in my life, but I would make an exception for this...

Nelson will not be removed he was Britain greatest hero and besides who is going to climb up the column to pull him down. He challenged tyranny across Europe his whole life especially Napoleon who was a total despot. The French should smash Napoleons tomb.

Who'd want to be a Rozzer. Now they've had to contend with far right protesters who want to protect statues but seeing as they're no BLM protesters (seeing as they're all in Brighton) to have a punch up with they've turned on the police

Spent a week there about 10 years ago and loved the statues but hated the whopping great Seagulls...

I used to work at a glass fronted building down by the waterfront, one of our favourite work time hobbies was watching people get chased/attacked by seagulls.
I saw that on the news, right wing demonstrators vowing to protect the statue of a man who was instrumental in defeating the nazis making nazi salutes you really could not make that up. Someone should tell them.

Look at that again. It is some idiot having a pee NEXT to the memorial. Silly , yes , but peeing ON it? No. The left wing media have again turned something into which it is clealy not. I say this as a retired police officer who is disgusted by much of the rest of it.

I don't think the "left wing media" (which "left wing media" are you talking about here, by the way?) needed to do much to make that rabble look like idiots. At least the BLM lot were protesting about something - this lot turned up to protect monuments from people who weren't there, then turned on the police because they were determined to fight someone, anyone.

I doubt the Italians will remove Julias Caesars statue, nor the Mongols Genghis Khan's statue history cannot be re written no matter how many statues are pulled down. Are art galleries going to come under siege and art removed of famous/infamous people? History books changed?

The incident is believed to have taken place on Saturday afternoon.
PC Palmer, 48, was stabbed while on duty during the Westminster terror attack on 22 March 2017. He was one of five people murdered by Khalid Masood.
The Met Police said officers had arrested a man on suspicion of outraging public decency.
He is currently in custody in Essex after presenting himself at a police station.
