Why £20 ? You're going to cycle part of it, will be less. Current bike was £100, done 1000s of miles on it.

My train ticket is £23 return. They don’t care if I drive to the station or cycle to it, they still charge me the same!

That’s how most rail travel into London works unfortunately. A majority of the main line stations are within the CC zone so even if you don’t work within it, you often find you need to travel into it and then out again. Not the case if you travel by car.

He drives an EV which costs less than the cycle and train journey you suggested I don't know if all trains that go into London are electric if they are not then the EV is better for the environment and you don't get to work sweaty or soaking wet if the weather is hot or raining which is another plus.
