Has anybody done it?
What would be the downside.
Wine bottles are difficult to acquire and then the choice is cork or plastic closures.
More plastic I’m not keen on, cork, risk of failure and not that cheap anymore.

So apart from the aesthetics, what would be the downside?

More plastic I’m not keen on,

If you are standing the bottles up i don't see why plastic screw tops would be a concern i have used the same ones for 6 years and have had no problems.

I don't see why beer bottle caps would be a problem other than the extra time you are going to spend on bottling day.

I've bottled wine in beer bottles - both crown capped and flip tops. Only down side is that it doesn't feel right. But the wine is just the same.

These come in at £3.10 & £3.40 for 24 and are reusable -

Right, well it looks like I’ve made a blunder. I thought the bottles that had a screw top, needed a new screw top.

Is that not the case?

If the bottles you have collected have the original metal screw caps they will be fine for a while some members say eventually the treads wear and the screw caps are no longer airtight some say that is not the case, i guess time will tell ;)
