    Shooters?

That's one hell of a hog. Either that or the guy in picture is standing 20 feet away to make it look bigger :)

Thanks Snail. That's a big help :thumb:

    Types of beer

Can someone please help me understand what the different types of beer are? I used to think that there were just lagers, bitters, stouts and real ales. Lagers & stouts are pretty much their own class, although I do know that German lagers were originally dark. Bitters and real ales I've...

    engineering/physics teaser..

A box beam on the diagonal will definately be weaker than if you had it square as your support will only be as strong as the joints where it is welded because it won't offer any real support compared to fitting it square. The force of the load pushing down on it will cause it to buckle sooner...

    My local HB shoppe

I see they serve Goachers. A nice local brewery producing some damn good beer if I remember rightly as well as my old favourite Summer Lightening  Indeed! I know where I'll be popping in to come the middle of August. How's their food there? May take Mrs Breath there for an evening...

    My local HB shoppe

I found what seemed to be my local HB shoppe in Maidstone (Maidstone Winemaking Centre). I calle d them up to find out their hours. A surly voice answered the phone. " 'ello? Yeah?". she said "Hello, is that the..." "Home brew shop! Yeah." she interupted "Ahh! Good. Can you tell me what...

    Shooters?

I agree, land can be very hard to come by to shoot on, especially if the landowner doesn't know you. I got a permission the other day from a farmer and his neighbour for rabbits & pigeons. They're fruit farmers so I don't think foxes are too much of an issue for them. I helped him out as he...

    Creamed yeast

Trouble with carbonating with CO2 is you get bigger bubbles (don't you?). Carbonating with yeast produces smaller bubbles. I recall an Italian restrantuer telling me about Italian sparkiling wine and how miffed they were at the French for stealing their idea and claiming it as their own...

    Shooters?

Do any of you noble members shoot? Or even some of you not so noble members (I'm sure there must be one or two). Mrs Breath & I both go clay shooting, although not as regular as we would like. I also like to take advantage of nature's larder and shoot for the pot (rabbits, woodpigeon and game...

Best Starter kit for a newbie

I'm sure this has been asked many times, but can someone tell me what I will be in need of for starting my own home brewing venture? I'm sure I can ask at any HB shop but am wary of being sold stuff that I either don't need or for a few extra quid get something that is really going to make a...

    Creamed yeast

Thank you. Just as I thought, but wanted to be sure. So how does one get a fizz in a soft drink without adding carbonated water?

    Creamed yeast

Seeing as I'm on a self imposed abstenence, I've recently come across some pretty damn good soft drinks (Heresy, I hear you say) made by an outfit called Fentiman's (from Oop North). Their Victorian Lemonade is really quite remarkable so it got me looking into some old lemonade & ginger beer...

    Greetings all!

Seeing as it's the polite thing to do, I'd like to bid a good afternoon to all & sundry. A curious thing though, it is. I find myself joining a home brewing forum in the middle of a period of abstenence (Approx 3 weeks in to a 6 week stint) . Reminds me a dyslexic sign writer I once knew...
