How does yeast drive off the hops? do the yeast eat it up or something?

Hi essex brew I had one of those great beer. dead easy to do. You can also pimp it up a little by adding some extra sugar to it make it nice and strong thats what I did. I think you can add some extra hops as well to give it more flavour or add some treacle as well, so I believe.
