Question for everyone who transfers hot wort to the FV and pitches the next day when cool: Do you aerate the wort when cool before adding the yeast (or is enough oxygen added in the hot transfer)?
Plum Porter is finally in the bottle! Left it an extra week in the FV hoping to get the gravity down a little further. It dropped an extra couple of points over the final week but still ended quite high at 1012.
Should be alright but I've only primed with 1/4 tsp of sugar in each bottle just...
Took a sample of mine yesterday but it's only dropped to 1018. Hoping it's just slow rather than stuck as I've fermented at a slightly cool 19 degrees. I've increased the temp to 20.5 to help it along.
I wasn't too sure of the smell when it went in the fermenter (very plummy), but the sample...
I made an Imperial Stout last October with Kveik Voss hoping its wonder powers would help it cope with the high alcohol and speed up the conditioning. It dealt with the fermentation brilliantly but even fermenting at cooler temps (25c) produced quite a sharp/acidic taste (what others describe as...
Yes, there's a lot of ultra sonic gadgets sold as beer frothers, but i suppose the crucial difference is they're agitating the co2 rather than the nitrogen that Guinness is adding into the surger cans.
This looks like a similar concept to the Guinness gadget but just working with the co2 in...
Guinness say the device only works with their surger cans but has anyone tried it with a normal can of stout? I guess it won't be quite as effective, but would it give any improvement? Keen to see i could pour my home brewed imperial stout through it.
Well, the St Peters Plum Porter kit went into the fermenter this afternoon. This is the first kit I've done in a long time, but I've never been able to find any good all grain recipes that can replicate any of my favourite plummy commercial beers: Titanic Plum Porter, St Peters Plum Porter...
Hey MrJay - update on my Kveik RIS:
I opened a bottle over Christmas and it's definitely improved but the sharpness from the yeast is still there. It perfectly drinkable, but for me the acidity that the Kveik has introduced doesn't suit a RIS and I didn't give any bottles out at Christmas. I'm...
My SS bottles went to @dave_77 and @Leon103. Thanks for reviews chaps. I regretted not sending you a bit more info on the beer, so you knew what you were getting into! The Christmas Belgian Dubbel was actually a rum raisin Dubbel recipe that had rum soaked raisins added to the secondary. The rum...
My second Secret Santa beer: an Extra Strong Bitter.
Another great beer. Perfect bitterness with a nice malty chewiness and good mouthfeel. It's a substantial beer but there's no high alcohol harshness. A very enjoyable beer - I drank it far too quickly. Thanks Santa!
