    Kveik

I brewed an imperial stout on the 20th March and pitched two teaspoons of Voss that I had sitting in the fridge from September. At 33 degrees C it finished in about 3 days from 1.074 to 1.013 so it does seem to keep pretty well

    Corny Keg Refill

Cheers guys, I just gave the keg a good rinse with hot water and then Star San. This stout has been brewed with the same yeast (Voss Kveik) so I should be good on the cross contamination front too.

    Corny Keg Refill

Just by chance I have a coffee stout that's ready to keg and one of my kegs has just ran out that had a coffee porter in. Now this might cause an argument with the sanitation police but is there any real harm in kegging my stout straight into this keg without cleaning the keg with oxi and then...

    How long can grain keep?

Cheers guys. It is crushed as I don't have the means to crush it myself. I have dealt with grain before but only twice so not experienced but I'll follow your advice and if it doesn't smell right then I'll buy some more but if not I'll brew away athumb..

    How long can grain keep?

I ordered the grain for two brews last October but due to life getting in the way I have only been able to brew one of the beers. My question is, will the grain for my 2nd beer be okay to use 5 months after receiving it? I have kept it indoors in the dry, in a room that would have stayed...

    Kveik

Yeah it certainly is and as long as I'm happy with the end result I'm not too fussed about how it has got there (within reason...:laugh8:)

I used WLP Osphaug on an IPA I brewed this Saturday and after 4 days (pretty much to the hour) it had gone from 1.060 to 1.011 which is an apparent attenuation of 81%. I did ferment on the slightly high side at 30 degrees C though. Cooled it down to 20 degrees C and dry hopped. It might drop a...

October 2019 Competition - Dark Beers

Cheers for the feedback Tim pretty happy with a score of 29 on my first ever AG beer and a lot to build on from the feedback. My palette is quite rich so the beer has been a really good surprise for me but my friends have mentioned that it’s on the strong side. It’s clone based on a dry smoked...

What's this in my Star San??

Never experienced it myself but I've been told that if you're using Star San in water with a high pH it will cause the Star San solution to go "murky" after a short period and it's no longer suitable as a sanitiser. Just looking at the photo it would look like this is the case but I'm only guessing.

October 2019 Competition - Dark Beers

Ooooo exciting! I bet you felt worse for wear after :laugh8: I think most people put up their top 3 and then all feedback is sent as a PM and then it's up to the entrant as to whether or not they want to share it. Not entirely sure on the actual rules of judging though so someone else who has...

And did my beers arrive in one piece?

    Kveik

Fair enough! I've just kegged a coffee porter that I fermented with Voss Kveik and I'm really happy with it so I've got my fingers crossed that this Opshaug is another winner.

I haven't had chance to brew yet, hoping to brew the Alesmith clone on the 3rd November, I'll most likely pitch the whole vial and then top or bottom crop the yeast. What are you plaining to brew with it?

October 2019 Competition - Dark Beers

How long do you think it could keep in a bottle, should I wait until the last minute before filling it and sending it off?

October 2019 Competition - Dark Beers

I've also got a coffee porter that I've kegged that I would like to try and send in but I'm slightly concerned about oxidation as I would need to bottle it from the tap... Has anyone got any tips for bottling off the tap? I've not got the money spare to buy a counter-pressure filler before any...
