    Show us your cat

We sadly lost Izzie our 19 year old burmilla 6 weeks ago, then went a bit crazy and ended up with 3 kittens, all distant relatives of Izzie. This is Jessie cat, the cutest of the new brood, 18 weeks old.

    Grainfather Pump Replacement

The pump on my Grainfather has been misbehaving for ages, barely working and making awful noises, particularly just when you want to cool down the flameout hops which are going to bitter the brew if the wort doesnt get recirculated through the chiller. Couldnt bring myself to shell out over £100...

What have you been cooking in your air fryer?

Did a roast chicken in our two drawer last week, roasties in drawer 2. I was doubtful in would turn out well but it was awesome, did a 1.5kg in 1 hour!

    BBQ thoughts....

Highly recommend a kamado, got a kamado joe classic for my 50th last year and its just been amazing. Did a spatch cocked roast chicken on it and the flavour was fantastic, juicy, smokey. Everything tastes amazing on it. Aldi have got a version on offer at the mo.. I use my butane gas plumbing...

    Grainfather issues

Realise its a day late but for next time.... I pause the timer, turn off the pump, remove the recirculating arm and use thick rubber gauntlets to remove the mash cover then carefully stir up the mash, before replacing/restarting. Things that help when I use corn or flaked oats in the grist are...

    Heat Source Pumps.

We have an air source heat pump which was installed by the builders prior to our buying the house. When its cold you only get around 1 to 2kwh of heat for each kwh of electric, but more like 4.5 kwh for 1 of electric in milder weather. The pumps dont have much better longevity than a gas boiler...

    Best ever witty response

I was chatting with a guy on a job we were both working on and we got talking about diets. He was telling me how for a week his wife had only eaten almonds and pistachios. "Wow", I said, "Thats just nuts!"

    7% to 8% beer ?

I made an 8.6% dipa based on Proper Job but with lots of citra and amarillo in my grainfather. It was fantastic! I used two sachets of us05. The grain bill was 7.64kg. I would add some rice hulls next time (2 or 300g) to aid the sparge as it was slow verging on stuck. Heres my recipe.. Happy...
