Beer Engine and The Great Dictator!

Cheers BeerBloke - that explains a lot. I kept thinking to myself "how can that pull the beer through". It didn't occur to me what it actually was. Fortunately the other beer engine I bought with it is the real thing otherwise I would be feeling quite annoyed, not to say embarrassed at being...

Beer Engine and The Great Dictator!

A while back I bought two beer engines on the well known auction site. A good deal at £30 for the two. One is a Hi Gene and the other DDG. I believe these are actually the same company, or rather were, as I think they ceased trading some while ago. The DDG is your bog standard cylinder type...

    Used grain on compost

Thanks for all your replies. Very informative as always (and entertaining at times!). I think I will avoid the compost, with other options available.

    Used grain on compost

I've just done AG#3, a Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild from GW's book. Now I've often read on here that used grain can be added to a compost heap. My question is does this not attract rodents to the compost? The little (and the not so little) critters seem to love grain before we use it, so are they...

Shiny Mashtun Build with lots of pics!

Hi Andy I made a washer using a piece of Vossy's 1/2 inch silicone hose. Cut a piece long enough, then cut through lengthwise, flatten it down as best as you can. Cut out centre hole, push on to fitting and cut excess from outer edge. It does tend to want to bend back into it's original shape...

Shiny Mashtun Build with lots of pics!

Thanks. The second wooden circle forms the base so that its all enclosed - with a hole cut into it to make it easier to remove once the screws are take out.

The stainless steel skin fitting came from http://www.vetus-shop.com Not cheap though - including vat and delivery was about £25 I think.

Shiny Mashtun Build with lots of pics!

Thanks for all the kind comments. The stainless steel strip came from a company called Warley Polishing Ltd. T/A Polished Metal Offcuts. They are on ebay. They list loads of stainless steel of different sizes and thicknesses. They didn't have the size I wanted listed but I emailed them on...

Shiny Mashtun Build with lots of pics!

This is how I built my MT. I decided to raise it up on a base to allow the necessary pipework from the bottom drain to run underneath. I thought it might be easier than cutting into the base with an angle grinder which is ok if you are good at that sort of thing. I was afraid I might ruin my...

    1st AG brew

Thanks for all the nice comments. To answer some questions - Yes, Caerleon it's in the garage ( used to be my office/workshop, so well insulated and a dedicated electric circuit ). Had to plumb in the water supply though. As for the MT Dan, yes it is supported. I took lots of pics of the build...
