I've got this in FV1 at the moment, brewed full but with 500g beer kit enhancer and 500g medium spray malt. Used bottled water too as first three brews have a chemical tang. This thread inspired me to crack open the FV for the first time since it went in 17 days ago. Tastes really quite nice...

I started with Woodforde's Wherry, a popular first Ale kit I believe. Two and a half months on it tastes good!

Done! Went for 22ltr of bottled spring water (used tap previously but seems a bit of a chemical aftertaste) 500g medium spray malt 600g beer kit enhancer (how well will the remaining 400g last in the bag?) :cheers:

Thanks for the replies. Yes, Sugar seems a bit pointless when I have superior things to add, my only thoughts were to pinch the pennies and therefore save half the enhancer for the next brew! At 500g of each I save the above half of enhancer anyway, I just thought maybe adding 1.5kg of...

As above, I've got the Wilko Sweet Newkie Brown Kit and the following in my cupboard: - 2kg brewing sugar - 500g medium spray malt - 1kg beer kit enhancer I'm thinking add 500g of each and see how it turns out - any other suggestions?

Is the 'bit of head' :oops: not just a sign of the secondary fermentation from the priming sugar? I'm new to home brew so could be wrong though...

I have racked three brews into PB's in the last three months and not experienced this noise yet. Presumably you'd see the clear rubber band bit kind of expanding as it's releasing the pressure if it is indeed the pressure relief valve making the noise and therefore the band ticking? My first PB...

Welcome. I got the same book for Christmas, very good book and makes me want to go AG at some point too! Need to master the kits first though!

Good point, they're probably on their way to the dodgy Brewdog (although it's a lot of effort and cost to steal 16k bottles of beer from the other side of the world!)
