I've seen so few of either Swallows or Swift this year is is it the lack of birds or insects?

More swifts and swallows around here this year, some even nesting in nextdoor but 1's gable end has there's a big chunk of cement missing, brilliant watching them swoop in to gap.

Have them in our attic every year, but the first time I've ever found a dead fledgling in the attic this year, think it was just unlucky in the heat
