    Hop Tea

Many moons ago I saved the bags from the Festival 2 can beer kits that you stick their pellet hops in. I stick my dry hop additions (pellet and leaf) in these and tie the top. The only reason I do a quick 'tea' (pan + boiling kettle water in pan to cover and 30 second boil turning bag) is to...

Coopers Premium Selection Family Secret Amber Ale

Checked BBD on bottom on tin when starting - Feb 2017. I always rehydrate yeast carefully before pitching. It's going great guns this evening at a steady 21*C with my Inkbird and a heat pad - all is good! :thumb: I hope they haven't changed the recipe as this is my 'go to' mid-price IPA! :-?

Coopers Premium Selection Family Secret Amber Ale

I agree with Tanzanite, it drinkable alright however, like a lot of Cooper's kits, it's quite bland on the hop front and those Aussies must like their beers bitter too. I also found the Australian Pale a Ale quite bitter for a light pale ale. The IPA kit is the Selection IPA and I've had...

Coopers Premium Selection Family Secret Amber Ale

First time out of around a dozen Cooper's kits where I've been left disappointed. Colour is certainly not Amber like the tin. It's Newcastle Brown Ale coloured. It's got a very bitter finish, and very little hop aroma so I don't find it very balanced. Finally, even after 5 weeks in bottles...

    Coopers Australian Pale Ale

Did this kit with a 1.5kg tin of light LME, substituted the kit yeast for Mangrove Jack M44 West Coast and added about 40g of Cascade as a dry hop about day 10. Bottled on day 15. SG = 1050, FG = 1010 coming out at around 5.25 ABV. I'm sat here slurping an 8 month old one and it's really...

    Coopers IPA review

Like most of the reviewers, and similarly to most Cooper's kits, this makes great beer in you leave it three to four months, but it's a bit bland in terms of hop flavours. So, again like lots of other Brewers, second time I brewed this I stuck some Zeus and Centenniel leaf hops in a bag (don't...

    Fizzy beer

Most kits give an unrealistic time scale for primary fermentation to finish (...presumably to convince you that you can drink your beer sooner thus making you want to buy their kit!). You may have bottled your beer too soon with there still being some sugars from the kit to ferment out as well...

Festival Landlords Finest Bitter - Honest Opinions Required!

I'd say my effort took about three months to optimise. It's a quality end result for the patient brewer, but not, in my opinion, much like TTs Landlord to be honest. It's pale an very hoppy if you use all those supplied for a dry hop. You don't have to use them all though if you don't want to...

    Question about kits

There you are then. Simply Pale Ale, a 1kg packet of DME and one pack each of the three hop varieties (100g of each). I don't know what ratio they use them, but I wouldn't start with more than 30g in total, unless you are already a total 'hop head' - remember, the kit is already pre-hopped.

    Question about kits

I've done loads of the kits you've mentioned there (...and reviewed them all). I thought they BetterBrew IPA was ok, but the best IPA I've had in terms of end quality is the Coopers one can kit made to the instructions with Dried Malt Extract (DME) - not particularly hoppy, but great beer for...

    Grainfather trials

But the nice folks at Brew UK gave up some vouchers for one of the draws, which yours truly happened to win, and I am about to upload the start of a review of the kit that I got with them in the Reviews section (kit contents and brewing part only, I won't be tasting it for a couple of months I...

    Grainfather trials

Any recommendations from experienced all grainers for one of the better 'all in a box' all grain kits? There's no point in me buying kg's of malt just for one batch!

    Hot to obtain sweetness

It's me! I had a brain fade. I meant Lactose!!! Durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! :nah:

    Hot to obtain sweetness

If you get it wrong and it's not sweet enough, add some maltose before secondary fermentation - it's unfermantable!

    Coopers beer bottles delaminating

Had my Coopers ones two years and they are ok still. Got some crown cap ones with my starter kit and one or two of those have delaminates from the pressure of capping. Just binned them. I have 100s of glass bottles so I don't fret too much. Nothing lasts forever!

    Bottle Explosion After 3 months?

I'm guessing that I have commercial bottles I might have used a dozen times - and I've not bad one go on me yet! That said, I only do ales and I don't like them massively carbonated so they are probably not under as much pressure as they could be.

    Discounts and giveaways

I was a very grateful recipient of some vouchers that purchased a Festival World Beer US Steam Beer kit. I just have had other kits approach their sell by date over the last month, so it's coming up in the queue. I didn't realise it was part of the deal to brew it immediately? I plan to do a...

Nowhere cold to move for clearing

The darkest corner of my garage is well below the ambient temperature outside, and also in the house. The keg I stuck out there two weeks ago is just starting to clear - it is a top tap King Keg though, so don't know what it's like at the bottom. The bottles in my 2nd hand fridge off EBay...

    Carbonation in King keg.

I take great care never to use sandpaper on either my rim or my o ring! :o Seriously though, I don't recommend any abrasives on plastic used in brewing. The little scratches are the type of places bacteria can lurk and might not get sanitiser on - especially around the lid.

    Carbonation in King keg.

Ey oop TRD, A few tips from me. - Use PTFE tape on the thread of the KK for a better seal with the lid - Vaseline your 'O' ring well and make sure it is seated properly (...this not a euphemism btw ;-)) - if you like well carbonated beer maybe try a little more priming sugar than suggested...
