    Mini keg thread size

I’ve seen this online https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F173616205776 I really fancy one of these, like the idea of a couple 2l and maybe a 5l. All fits in the fridge and cut down on the bottling. Happy days! However, I need to buy the kegs...

    recarbonate a flat beer

Hi all I primed my last batch with priming drops, so I'm fairly sure I've dosed correctly (in fact if anything, pretty heavily - 2x prime drops per 500ml bottle - a chocolate IPA). They went into my brew fridge at 20°C post bottling for 2 weeks, but I noticed some of the bottles at the...

    Brupaks Boiler, 29L 2KW

Contemplating bidding on a brupak boiler 29L, 2KW on an auction just now, could land a bargain maybe £60 or so. Same as below... http://www.the-home-brew-shop.co.uk/acatalog/Brupaks_Electric_Boiler_Polypropylene.html A couple of questions that I cant find the answer to anywhere, was...

    All Brewdog recipes.... For free!

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is common knowledge but I've just seen this via twatter. Incase anyone else didn't know Brewdog have published all their recipes to download for free. Interesting read. Is this a bold move? Interested in the thoughts, seem a strange one to me. I guess they are...

Oxygen issues with racking to a secondary?

Hi all, a little thought I was pondering on and would really appreciate any input please? When I rack to my FV (glass demi) I leave a little headspace to stop an explosion. My understanding is any air (including oxygen) present in this headspace escapes through the airlock as the...

First ever AG (BIAB) small batch

Hi all I decided to go for my first ever AG today having purchased a 15l "stock pot" on eBay. Started with 11l strike water at 68c and managed to stay above 65c all through the mash with a little help from the weans sleeping bag). Used 1500g pale malt and 250g crystal. After the 70min mash it...

    Mr Beer Diablo IPA

I have attached a pic of the instructions for this brew. I just plan to do this the normal way though, up to about 9 litres ("8.5 quarts") @ 20C in my fermenter bucket. A couple of questions I would really appreciate anyone's input on please? 1. No sugar in the fermenter? I was expecting...

    Fruit Beer - Extract Brew

Hi all I was kindly given a Cooper's Mexican cerveza recently. Its in the primary FV just now. I usually rack to a secondary FV just to help clear - especially with lager type beers which I think benefit particularly. I have a couple of 5l glass demijohns and I'm tinkering with the idea...

    strange hydrometer behaviour

hi all, this is a weird one... I brewed up some Geordie Scottish Export (contradiction in terms!) on Thurs night, a nice big 40 pinter with OG 1.038. Vigerous fermentation Fri as expected, already showing no bubbles in the FV Sat morning so I thought I would take a quick gravity reading to...

    ANOTHER stuck fermentation post...

Im sorry for posting yet another post re stuck fermentation but this is the third batch in the last 4 Ive had problems with. This time, Grand Cru. Made to 9 litres as per the instructions, it was a little but on the warm side but I left to cool to 25C before pitching the yeast. Also note I...

    Bargain heater

after my second brew in a row stuck at 1.020 I've decided to look at an overnight heater (Scotland is cold in March!) about £40 for a plate heater..... But I've found pet heating pads on eBay for £8. Anyone any experience? 20w pad about 45x45cm and waterproof for leaky FVs (and dogs!). Looks...

    Storing beer

might sound daft but can you store (or even condition) beer lying down? Surely when u pick it up to pour it will disturb the crud that you want to leave in the bottle?

    Young's beer finings

anyone had any luck with these? Do you stir them in or just chuck in the FV after fermentation and leave a couple days? I have a Canadian blonde on the go (Beer not woman). I would like it clear as possible but concerned that it might eat up the yeast totally and affect carbonation.

    Bottle priming techniques

hi all Just about to bottle up my second ever brew, John Bull IPA. Been in the FV for three weeks, disappointingly only reaching FG of 1.016 from OG 1.052 but I'm sure it's done, such is life. For the bottling does it matter when exactly to add sugar? Previously I just used normal 'kitchen...

whats happening in the fermentation process

Hi all, I am a complete newbie and would like to understand the process better. I have my first batch on (woodfordes wherry) and the basic kit (FV with tap, straight to bottle). My understanding of the procedure as follows.. 1, A week or so primary fermentation 20C (once SG stabilises) 2...
