    Centennial Brown Ale

I've just bottled another batch. I also missed my efficiency but it's only a few points difference, so didn't sweat it. Three week in FV and a week in the bottle. Tasted one last night as a test... already very good. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk

    Dechlorinating tap water

Yeah I've used that well a couple of times for light ales because I was told it was excellent soft water. But my experience tells me possibly not. Not the nectar i expected. Also the star san goes cloudy in an instant. It'd be good to get an analysis - though on not sure where from...

Brew Fridge - What type of heater

So to answer the OP. I bought a 25w aquarium heater and an Inkbird 308. Notwithstanding the fact that my 'new' fridge went bang three minutes after it went on (not a fault of the inkbird; the fridge had been unused for a while) I've been finding the heater ok. The stuff I have to work out is...

    Clibit's 'Simple AG' - Questions

What they all said... two pans ok, just make sure you boil the wort for an hour . Second pan could be water top up. Unused hops in freezer. Generous yeast approximation. Good luck and welcome to the dark side. The hard bit is waiting for it to condition...

Which yeast for my saaz brew?

Thanks Rodabod (and Mike). That's what I went with in the end. Brew day went well and my latest concoction is fizzing away in the basement.

Which yeast for my saaz brew?

Thanks guys. The book lists s33 as an equivalent. I tried a saaz brew recently, a Saltaire Blonde recipie that was awful at first but got better. I felt it had promise. I'm sort of committed now having the hops and the grain mashing away. In any case if it's rubbish it'll only be 10l of rubbish...

Which yeast for my saaz brew?

Evening all and happy new year. My first brew of the year is the Greg Hughes saaz. Except I don't have the wyeast 1056 he recommends. I have s04, s05, nottingham and some gervin gv12. The brew will be light coloured and I'm aiming for an abv around 4.5. What would you go for? Simon

    Rescue flat boring beer...

Update.. with an admission that I didn't follow through with my plan to reprime as an experiment. I just left the beer longer. It cleared, carbonated and became drinkable, subtle tasting/slightly underwhelming beer. Lesson: not all beer behaves the same way. Time helps. I've found my light...

    Infected?

Noted. Thanks. Weaponised beer may make a useful gift for out of favour relatives 😉

    Infected?

Thanks all. So, fermenting time 21 days. I applied my normal practise of 'three weeks is done with a bit of headroom'. Flawed nodoubt but I've not had a problem in the previous 12 brews. Never had a stuck fermentation before. Yeast GV12, which for convenience I pitched without rehydrating (I...

    Infected?

Weeell sure? As in took readings. No. It's mainly the strongly fruity smell/taste and extreme cloudiness that's got me worried.

    Infected?

Hello all. Care to confirm my worst fears about the latest batch? Three week ferment. White mould on top of floating yeast, cloudy as f*ck, strong fruity smell and taste, og only reached 1.020.... I've bottled anyway since sometimes a less than promising beer can turn but.... Simon

Bottles - Carb and Condition times

Yeah I've adopted that approach now too. Three 10l brews on the go now. However I try so many different types I can barely wait to see how my latest 'new masterpiece' has turned out - noting the obvious contradiction that they're far from their best when I first give in to temptation...

Bottles - Carb and Condition times

Mmmm you guys have such self discipline. I do three weeks in FV, and then bottle. I feel after that saintly patience I've earned the right to crack the first bottle after four days...

    Rescue flat boring beer...

It's a 10l brew and I used 60 of brewers sugar - actually a bit more than I usually use. It was three weeks n primary and now two weeks in the bottle at room temperature. Normally (ie every other time) by now I'd have very clear, well carbonated beer. In fact my beer is sully quite clear at...

    Rescue flat boring beer...

Well Hop,it hasn't been in the bottle long, so you're right it may fizz up a bit yet. But my experience is that my AG brews condition quickly. Nine months seems impossibly far in the future. I could be dead by then, and if not, I'm bound to want reuse those bottles. Mm McM, your scientist chums...

    Cascade single hop

I'm having a go at something like this tonight. 10l brew. 2kg MO, 100g crystal. Cascade hop additions: 20 @60m then 10g each at 15, 5, and flameout. Hopping for a nicely hoppy fragrant beer...
