EBIAB build plans, suggestions / comments?

I'm currently planning on converting my gas fired BIAB system to an electric recirculating system to hopefully make brewdays a little easier and less stressful. Currently my gas burner blows out at least two or three times during each heating phase. I've come up with the below plans along with...

    Inkbird temperature probe

Yes, if you have your probe hanging in the air. If it is in the fermenter, and the wort drops to 18 then the heater will come on. However it will take a long time for the wort around the probe to increase to 19, when it does the air in the fridge is likely to be much higher than 19. This...

    Inkbird temperature probe

If you are using 20L of wort it will take a lot longer than a few minutes to move wort temperature 0.5C, and the fridge will most likely drop to quite a bit below 19C which will then keep cooling your wort and cause the heater to come on a lot more also. On observing mine which is usually set...

    Inkbird temperature probe

Moving the temperature of the wort is a very slow process, inside the bucket or attached to the bucket means that you will be trying to add heat (or remove heat) for a long time to see a slight change, therefore the inkbird will fluctuate less often but likely for higher amounts of change. This...

    Inkbird temperature probe

If it is in a fridge then hanging in the air is suitable to keep the temperatures stable with little fluctuation.

Greg Hughes Scottish 80 Shilling Recipe

I tried it, but missed out the caramelisation step and it does seem to be missing something. I think if this was done then it would be a lot better.

Comments on my Mango Rye PA recipe please

Thanks for the comments I'll look at upping the rye to ~15% as i'm looking for a spicy flavour from the rye to try and balance the mango flavour a little, and may drop the crystal (it was only really there for colour). I was planning on using a bought mango puree, having decided which yet...

Comments on my Mango Rye PA recipe please

I'm looking at brewing this as my next recipe, this is the first i've tried to put together from scratch. Can anyone comment on whether this looks like it might be alright or have i missed something glaring? HOME BREW RECIPE: Title: Mango Rye PA Brew Method: BIAB Style Name: American IPA...

    Syphoning solutions

I have been following this (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1469711885/the-pro-brewers-siphon-a-home-brewing-essential-to/description) on Kickstarter as i've had issues with auto-siphons also and taps (consistent leaks from fermenter taps, and gunk growing in them). Not sure when the...

Bottle condition appears to have failed

Fermented at about 18-19C then had a couple of days at 22C and a cold crash at 4C. I'll have to look into somewhere to stash them for the next few months to see how they turn out, though i suspect it will have to be in the garage which will be subject to temperature swings and (being in...

Bottle condition appears to have failed

My latest bottle conditioning appears to have failed, I brewed a 10% imperial stout and cold crashed for a couple of days after two weeks fermentation. I bottled two weeks ago and have tried a couple of bottles this week and they have no carbonation, not even a slight hiss when opening. They...

    Inkbird 308 general settings

I've set my compressor delay to 10 minutes, every time I check my fridge it is never on and the temperature is within 0.5C of the target. My difference is set at 0.5C also. I do have my fridge in the garage so there isn't much outside heat to increase the fridge temperature, I also have a 12cm...

Inkbird plug in thermostats 15% discount new release

I went with the 310 as i wanted to be able to set a fermentation temperature profile and not have to worry about going in and changing the temperature manually. The only advantage i can think of for a longer temperature probe is for putting directly in the fermenter or in a thermowell. The...

How to filter the my homebrew?

Gelatin gets a good name at the brulosophy site, good instructions there on how to use it. I haven't tried it myself yet so don't know how it would effect bottle carbonation but they don't seem to think it would prevent it just probably slow it down. Sent from my XT1092 using Tapatalk

    BIAB boiler o-ring for tap

Can anyone recommend a good heatproof o-ring material for a 1" hole and tap on a 50L BIAB gas boiler set-up? The ones supplied with my tap have completely melted and solidified after just two brews and aren't holding any sort of seal now. I'm thinking of a decent o-ring with a washer round it...
