What's your least favourite thing about brewing?

Yup, I've seen them and will investigate, but since I'm only bottling small quantities at the moment it's not too much of a priority. I think Lidl and Aldi do them cheapish normally around Xmas time, so it'll probably wait until then. Only problem with them of course is that they come full of beer.

Invest in one of the lever type bottlers, far easier.

What's your least favourite thing about brewing?

Bottling sucks. It was the main reason that I gave up making kits - took far too long for a beer that really wasn't very good. Was better off spending 70p a tine for German pils from Aldi/Lidl. Wasn't worth my time. Since then I've done an AG brew in small quantities (16 pints a time), which...

What to brew on my 1st all grain brew attempt

Just drank a bottle of my first AG, which was a SMaSH MO with amarillo hop (think that's the correct spelling). Since it was the first AG I had done and because I'm doing stovetop BIAB, I'm only brewing in small quantities (about 2 gallons), and with the first effort I reckon mash temps were all...

    Any use for spent grains

You'd need a big catapult for my mother in law. Oh, sorry, just realised you shoot the food at the MIL, I find it more entertaining the other way round.

At the risk of sounding trite - chill! It wasn't a criticism, just an observation from personal experience. I don't really need an explanation of the function of an introduction. I am very old hand at the internet (a long time before forums, google etc) and the idea of applying everyday social...

    Hi from Cambridgeshire

Was brought up north side myself (Gunthorpe), though the olds owned the Bang & Olufsen building in town (opposite Westgate house almost) back in the day. They lived in Woodston, New Road I think. Is Bang and Olufsen still there? It used to be Walters the Stationers too in the past, if you're old...

    Hi from Cambridgeshire

Can you speak Polish? Lived down Vere Road not so long ago - it was almost a requirement then. Hasn't changed much from the little I saw at Xmas when I did the annual return visit.+

    Newbie

It's not just me then! Didn't even introduce myself to the various people I was rolling with last night. I only know one and that was because I almost bust his leg. They certainly seem to know their stuff here anyway - only joined a day or two ago myself. Certainly enough to keep you...

    What size pot?

Went with a 23L pot in the end - had to buy it from Germany (speak the lingo anyway) so will likely take some time to arrive which I'll spend reading up.

Always seems a little trite to post on intro, but I''ll do it anyway.

Yeah, I saw Clibit's post there as a sticky and that's what I'll be starting with. Keep it simple stupid (as it the saying goes).

Now where do I know him from? That actually was my first thought when I clapped eyes on that pic. I am a little biased as although I'm not really Tory leaning, I do share a lot of values with them, but my first thought probably says a lot about Labour's choice for leader. I didn't think it...

    What size pot?

True enough, but an induction pot that size (unless the Chinese comes up trumps - in which case it's a no brainer) is serious money. The missus might have something to say about that. I know I can get a 19L induction pan for £30 or so, I'm just hoping for something cheaper. Thanks all.

    What size pot?

Wilko doesn't appear to much in the way of induction capable stockpots, so they're kind of out anyway. I'm probably going to traipse down the local Chinese catering supplier, as they normally have cheap pots in and hopefully something will be magnetic. Not concerned about boiling a quantity...

    What size pot?

Ok, I plan to try out all grain brewing. I've done a few kits (wine and beer), and although I'm not too au fait with AG, on the scale I'm interested in (pan on hob in kitchen) , it's apparently doable with one pan and a bucket or two. The paraphernalia required for AG had always put me off, but...

Always seems a little trite to post on intro, but I''ll do it anyway.

I will be asking questions later. There will be a test next week. I climb with the kids mainly, at the moment just indoors though I plan to venture out to Stanage next summer. From what I've been told you drop a grade or three outdoors, so a V diff is likely a mere pipe dream for me. I...

Ah. what to say. Always seems a bit hackneyed this part of a forum, lots of people saying hello. Does anyone read them. I guess I'll find out. Anyway, I guess hello would be a start. Not a complete novice at this by any means, though I mainly brew such delights as WOW, and the occasional...
