    Possible Hefeweizen fail...

Definitely sour and not heavy peppery/clove flavour? Him. I'd give it a week or so and see if it's improved or worse.

BIGGEST Balls up to date!, what’s your biggest fail?

Ouch!!! I am always screwing up something when brewing. What does wort have to be so sticky and gross when it gets everywhere? 🫠

    Dead smack pack ?

I have had smack packs not inflate and likewise, I've had smack packs already inflated when I get them after shipping. Sometimes if they don't inflate, it's because managed to get the little bag of yeast nutrient open, so I do cut open and add to my starter. I always make a starter if it...

    Worst brew-day ever, any ideas?

Sounds a proper nightmare of a brew day to me! Did you use any rice hulls with in that mash? That should help the sparge. Also make sure you really give everything a good stir as you dough in. Does the false bottom normally lift up in brewing? Can see how that would then cause the wort to...

    Sterilizing

VWP is great for cleaning and sanitising all in one. Cheap and easy enough to get. I clean my stainless steel stuff with grainfather cleaner or PBW and sanitise with StarSan. But will still use VWP for tubing, plastic buckets, etc.

    First-time Lager Brewing

Hi - You can lager in the fermenter. You can either rack off or leave as is. Lager around 0-3ºC for 4-8 weeks, depending on your recipe. You lager after fermentation , which needs temps of around 12-14ºC. Having a diacetyl rest (15-17ºC.) just before fermentation is finished for a few days, is...

    My Number 1 Smash

Yikes - this forum lately feels like everyone wants to beat the **** out of each other! Jeezo, it's only beer. @Masimcox , looks great. My first all grain brew day was like a 15 hour marathon as I kept messing everything up. Still made beer of decent quality! The main thing at the end is 1.)...

Is the Homebrew hobby in decline?

Certainly a lot more options for great beer now, even in the supermarkets in the UK. In the US, breweries are everywhere. Some do better than others, of course! Trends in craft brewing include alcohol free options, less/no carbonation (interesting!), and in the US where it's becoming more...

    scottish trip - bottle swaps?

That weizenbock is so yummy. Actually, they all are. I've not tried the mango one, I need to rectify that!

    scottish trip - bottle swaps?

Re: Inverness area It's too bad Dog Falls Brewing doesn't have a shop, as they have some cracking beers. You may be able to find their beers at the Highlander Pub. Cromarty Brewery on the Black Isle is worth popping into for a few cans (no tours, no tap room). My husband isn't into hop...

Don't know if you have read through this thread, or at least the first few posts, but it's incredibly helpful with some DIY testing - https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/beginners-guide-to-water-treatment-plus-links-to-more-advanced-water-treatment-in-post-1.64822/
