This is just for extract brewing for the time being.

I have a 60l 3kw boiler. I have only brewed with it a couple of times but from the notes I took I seem to be loosing 20+ % during a 60m boil. Does that seem rather excessive?

When I get paid I'm going to get all the stuff I need to have a shot at this. My question atm is this. Should I get a 60l bucket or a smaller one? I only intend to do 40 pint brews. The 60l buckets are pretty massive and Im short on storage. Also, once the grain was removed from the wort there...

:oops: set the gas real high and shook the **** out of it and let it settle. Then a couple of hours later it dawned on me :? . Will it taste bad in a few days time?

I'm real keen to try it. it would be my first attempt at al grain. What put me off all grain is how labour intensive it seems. I'm temporary living back with the folks so I couldnt expect them to put up with all the kit it needs :lol: . BIAB on the other hand wouldnt take up any space at all...

when you you found it difficult controlling the temperature what, in what way was it difficult? I would like to get a thermostat in the long run so I could use it with the boiler to maintain the temperature.......

Only found this method yesterday and I'm impressed at how simple it looks. Lots of Aussies reporting good results with it too. I am about to do my first extract brew soon as I get my boiler sorter. After that I might try BIAB. What I dont know is the suitability of this with a home built...

Nothing is exposed as far I can tell :hmm: . The gaffa tape was used in place of electrical insulation tape which I did have but wasn't sticky enough to hold properly.

Argh no probs mate. Its trial and error this sort of thing after all.

The element was submerged mate yeah, It happened the second I flicked the switch. There was a bright blue flash and the rcd tripped (thank god lol :lol: ). when I inspected it the led was really hot and looked a bit blackened. Other than that it all looked as it should have.

Included the resistor, there is only a couple of mm between it and the connection coz the single wire was a pita and broke. Had to restrip it and didnt have a lot to play with. Both switch wires are in the same terminal and led in the other end. The switch on the socket outlet I used is now...

Ok. I tried this. Got it assembled and plugged it in..... .....blue flash inside the plastic tubing and the RCD tripped :? . On inspection it seems the LED may have been the problem as it appears blackened. Or was it like this before :hmm: . I cant be certain what went wrong. Here's a few...

Nobody? could really do with knowing how to go about this before I make the boiler.... I don't want to draw unsafe amounts through the sockets or anything....
