    northwest england fresh apple juice?

Don't be shy of concentrated apple juice, all this means is its frozen, then water is added back into it to dilute it. Its still pure juice but been through a process for transport reasons. I have made an 'inmate brew' or similar to a turbo cider just from ingredients and yeast from asda, and...

How to make my beer kit stronger - sugar questions

My first kit i brewed was a coopers real ale, i only filled the fermenter to 20L instead of the reccomended 23L. Im glad i did really as my ale was 5.5% when finished and had a bit of body to it. I am now drinking a John Bull i.p.a which i filled to the 23L mark, and it lacks body. Its 5% which...

    Tap Water

I too just use tap water, no need to be too picky really, its safe to drink and comes from the same place any water does, just without filtering through rock :thumb:

    Tap Water

It depends on how serious you are towards perfecting every little aspect of your brew. I say if its safe to drink its safe to brew with, you're not gonna do much harm. All my ales and beers have been perfecto. Just dabble now and again, try new methods etc see which is best, don't panic too...

Watermill inn & brewing co. Lake district

Im sure there are places in leeds that are okay, but as for leeds brewery pubs, they are modern style pubs serving posh nosh, just like any other in leeds. And the kinda pubs that get snooty about brewing their own ales. I like proper english pubs and inns, the pubs that are genuinly welcoming...

    ringwoods boondoggle

You'd think more pubs would be like this one wouldn't ya? Like when i go to york and visit these famous little old pubs, they just don't care. The guy and his dad who own the watermill will be loaded now, and thats because they are genuine people who actually care about what they do. They...

Hey if you like your dogs and your real ales, get yourself to the Watermill inn, cumbria, lake windermere. This pub is very very welcoming for dogs, and they have their own micro brewery and serve their home brewed ales at the bar, they are amazing ales! They have rooms so you can stay which are...

    Bottling Query from a Newbie

Timbim i use hot tap water to rinse the bottles after sterilizing, i don't have to rinse as the sterilizer bottle says i don't have to, but i do anyway as i am very careful to make sure evrything is 110% clean. I dont go overboard with worrying about infections as every brew iv done has been...

    Cider from juice cartons

This is where its fun lewis, just getting food ingredients from the supermarket then turning them into a strong alcoholic drink. Its the exact method prisoners do and it actually produces a very drinkable beverage. Theres no rules as such, its fun to do and is no more than £5. My next batch...

Where do you get your bottles?

Make sure you get bottles like what ale comes in, as your standard lager bottles are disposable and break when capping. They are not very pressure proof either. I get my old man to save all his ale bottles for me, so i have loads :D

    Cider from juice cartons

Well first of all the eggy smell was very strong but i just took a big sip anyway. It just tasted like pure orange juice but 10 years out of date  No alcohol taste there at all, maybe its true, orange is simply too acidic for the yeast. Try some other juices, boil them if they have...

    A lapsed home brewer

I think we're all in the same gang here, no matter how we do it we all brew our own beer which makes us all fall into the same category. We obviously share the same interests and are proud of what we make and drink. Different methods suit different needs and thats why theres no bullys here :D

    Cider from juice cartons

LewisA, i tried it for you, dont even bother mate  its disgusting  Make it with apple juice, thats actually pleasant to drink, especially with lemonade, gives it a refreshing taste and keeps the strength. I just used apple juice from concentrate, bread/bakers yeast and normal...

Mark1964 i too like 'rare' beers, i just stayed at a pub for 2 nights in lake district which has its own micro brewery in the pub. They sell their own home brewed ales and are the most popular sold in the pub. Luckily the owner also sells them bottled for you to take home should you want to...

    Bottling Query from a Newbie

I dunno if this is wrong or not but when i bottle i sterilize my bottles and rinse them the same time as bottling, so my bottles are still wet(ish) inside. This has never gave me a bad batch or had any problems with off flavoured beers. I use milton as my sterilizer now as it works 110% and...
