    Thermometer fluid in two parts

Shake it down. Hold it at the top (non bulb end) and give it a sharp downward flick like it shows here

That souer GUINNES taste.. how to get it?

I haven't drunk ordinary Guinness for a long time, but Foreign Extra Stout definitely has a sour tang to my taste buds. Wikipedia says that "Guinness Flavour Extract, a dehydrated, hopped wort extract made from barley malt and roasted barley, is used for overseas production of the stout. The...

    S-04 yeast - funky aftertaste...?

I've never had any problems with S-04 - but it's usually at least 3 weeks between pitching and drinking, more often 4 weeks or more. Maybe that makes a difference? I also always rehydrate it as well - at around 28 degrees C as suggested on the Fermentis website SafAle™ S-04

Spent grain, compost bin and mice

I think I'll see if there's anyone local with chickens. Exchanging for eggs sounds good to me!

Spent grain, compost bin and mice

I've always put my spent grain in the compost bin. This was fine at my old house - the bin was at the bottom of the garden, 50 yards from the house. I've now moved and got one of those round, plastic bins which is quite close to the house - and I've got mice activity around it. They might even...

    Co2 alternative?

Surely something a bit more food-orientated would be better? I'd be tempted to try the inners from a 'bag in a box', for example Replacement Bags For 10 Litre / 18 Pint Bag In Box - Pack Of 3

    Buffers Brewery Pressure Barrel “Bung”

It'd be nice to get away from the HB valve for getting gas into the barrel. How many years ago was it when bicycle tyres had valve rubbers? I can remember them from my youth. The pressure relief seems to work ok for me, though

    Buffers Brewery Pressure Barrel “Bung”

A while ago I replaced my standard King Keg round profile O ring sealing washers with some square section ones from Balihoo Square Section O Ring Seal For 4 Inch Barrel Caps - Balliihoo - Work a treat!

    Beers in Australia

Do a brewery tour with Top Gun Tours https://www.topguntours.com.au/ if you want to visit the Swan Valley Breweries. Feral Hop Hog was our favourite when we were there a few years ago - but note that beer is expensive - you're talking of at least $12 a pint

    Water from the hot tap

I wouldn't do it if you have a hot water tank. If you have a combi boiler (like I have) then I've taken water from the hot tap for years with no ill effects

    Giving up with pressure barrels

Still using a 5 gall Hambleton Bard pressure barrel which I purchased in 1998. I alternate it with a King Keg. After use I clean internally with normal washing up liquid then use Young's Steriliser & Cleaner - 2 tablespoons, fill to the brim with warm water & leave about 1/2 hour. Never had any...

Hambleton Bard to doscontinue s30 refills

I ditched my S30 cylinders many years ago and went over to the much better Midget Widget system. (one cylinder lasted me over a year, on average.) When they went out of business I switched over to SodaStream with an adapter. I wouldn't dream of going back to the S30 gassing system

Ginger in Beer (not Ginger Beer).

A spreadsheet of brewing spices I have which I presume is American suggests a maximum of 6 ounces of freshly grated root during the last 15 minutes of the boil, for 5 (US?) gallons
