Protafloc tabs - why so big?!

I chuck a whole tablet in, should i be using less?

    Coopers european.

I did 1/2 t/spoon in a 500ml bottle and it clearly wasn't enough. Lagers are meant to me more carbonated that Ales but I used the same amount of sugar that I would use in a Ale

    Coopers european.

Make sure that you get it carbonated, I didn't put enough Sugar in and the Beer was almost flat when I poured it 10 weeks later :sulk:

    Harvest Pale Recipe

Hi Clive, I love Harvest Pale and will have a go at this one. Are the hops listed above in the correct proportions? Have you made a brew using the above Hop additions? Thanks FB

    St Peters Golden Ale review

Dry Hopping is simply putting Hops directly into the FV towards the end of the fermentation. I don't keg but I have heard of people putting hops directly in to the keg.

    Thanks To DaveMack

I am moving over to the Dark Side in a month or so and was a bit apprehensive. I have watched vids on Youtube and asked questions on the forum. But nothing beats watching something 1st hand. Dave Mack on this forum lives close to me and he kindly offered to let me go to his Home and watch him do...

    Munton's Gold Midas Touch Review

Started drinking this after it had been in the bottle 8 weeks. It is a lovely beer more of a light brown colour than Golden. Good head retention and carbonation & mine came out at 4.7%. This beer could be improved by increasing the hops, so perhaps if you make it then consoder making a hop tea...

    Brupaks, Fixby Gold Review

Put a Fixby Gold in the FV on Sunday 25th March. I brewed it short @ 22 litres but the OG came out low @ 1038. The instructions say bottle at 1012 or below, this would only give me a brew an ABV of 3.5%. The kit says I should get an ABV between 4 and 4.4%. The airlock went mad about 20 hours...

Airlock Still Bubbling After 16 Days

At 1060 > 1012 thats an ABV of 6.4%, can I come around when you sample some  At 1012 for the past few days then I think its deffo time to bottle. I have never left a brew in the Fv much past 14 days.

    first brew

My St Peters Golden Ale will have been in the bottle exactly 4 weeks come Christmas Eve. Is this enough conditioning or should I wait? How long do you recommend for bottle conditioning?

    What Happens

Your the 2nd person to say this to me. I think I will do it as you say and use 500g spray malt and the dextrose.

    What Happens

Hi Guys, Will soon be starting my third kit. It will be a Coopers IPA, if the kit calls for a KG of fermentables what happens to the brew, its taste and strength if you use say a kilo and half of fermentables or even 2kgs.

Howl long to Bottle Condition & other questions

Well Guys, My St Peters Goden Ale is now bottled. I didn't take the OG but the FG was 1014 on the 6th day (which the kit recommends bottling by) But after listening to the advice of you guys I left it a further two days when the FG finished at 1010 or 1012 !. My eyesight is bad and I need...

    Bubbling's Stopped?!

Another question guys. Today is day 5 and the kit says the beer 'should' be ready to bottle between 4 - 6 days and when a hydrometer reads 1014 or lower. So I took a hydrometer reading which said 1014, I also noticed some of the yeast I pitched on day one still on top of the brew resting on...

    Bubbling's Stopped?!

Hi I posted on Saturday that I started my 1st ever brew which is St Peters Golden Ale. The airlock started bubbling overnight Sat / Sun and has been merrily bubbling ever since. Until that is tea time tonight when the airlock went quite and has been the same all evening. The kit instructions...

    New Home Brewer

Hi All. I have just put my very first Home Brew in to the FV. It is a St Peters Golden Ale. I am soo excited about tasting it in a month or so's time. I am a compete Novice but found the process quite easy to do, the instructions were very plain and simple and at first I thought they had left...

    First brew

Will I posted the same question yesterday about my airlock not bubbling and 24 hours later it is now bubbling away every 10 seconds. I now have the same problem as you with water in the airlock being displaced, so it sounds like a normal thing to happen. I will wait and see the replies from the...

    Got my 1st Brew on

Thanks for the swift relies guys. The bucket is currently in our dining room which is warm but not hot. How will I know if the yeast is still alive? Would it hurt to throw in another sachet of yeast whether or not?

    Got my 1st Brew on

Hi All, Today I have brewed my first ever HB. I have done a 2 Can St Peters Golden Ale. All went well I think but I did make the mistake of putting then yeast in when the water temp was 29c. Will this temp kill the yeast? Its been 5 hours since I brewed and not a peep from the bubble air lock
