Hi all Need urgent advice after kegging my first ever neipa recipe into a corny, i discovered all my gas had gone! I can't push out the oxygen from the keg and doubt I can find co2 refill in next few days. Should i add sugar to the keg? Or will it be ok for a day or 2 while I find a...

    Wheat beer water category

Hi all, I had a water profile done by Murphys via brewuk and it provides instructions for 3 categories: Lager / pilsners Pale ale / bitters Stout / porters Should I be using the lager instructions when brewing a wheat beer? Or do I need to work out another "category"? Thanks

    Hose and gun recommendations?

I use the tap in the back garden for my brewing water - never had a problem, apart from the fittings and various guns I've had always end up leaking and I brew inside so this is a constant pita! Can anyone recommend some that don't leak - and are preferably food grade? Would be great to be...

Grainfather remote brew - Green Flash IPA

Hi All, After putting this off for days now due to being so busy at work, my cheap IP cam finally arrived so I can sit in the office working and keep an eye on the GF :) Really into the west coast IPAs at the moment so giving this a try as it's supposed to be one of the best. A proper hop...

    Longer mash consequences?

Hi All Recently brewed a stout which was supposed to have an OG of 1054. My sparge heater was playing up though, so I ended up mashing for at least another 30 minutes whilst panicking about how to heat up the water I needed. Ended up with OG of 1062 - so I got another 8 points from...

    Improving bombadier clone

Hi All Recently done a bombadier clone and its not far off - pretty pleased with it!!! Though it certainly can be improved, a little more hops I think although the main difference with the pub pint you can get right now is that it has a really strong hoppy aftertaste. Does anyone know how...

    Blowing my nutty brown....

Sounds... erm wrong!... but this is exactly what I've just spent 15 minutes doing. All the mash tun tube etc is just packed with grain think I must've stirred too hard and knocked grain underneath the false bottom............ :? Just couldn't get it to flow again. Even dyno rod would've...

    Diluting wort after the boil?

Happy new year all, the first of many nooby questions no doubt for 2013.... I'm struggling to get a good boil (as I use my gas cooker) so want to reduce the amount of liquor in the pot. However, I'd still like to produce 19-23L brews.... Since I will be mashing / sparging still, is there a...

Graham Wheelers recipes and their colour ratings

Quite excited to have received his book "Brew your own Real Ale" (3rd edition) and I'm planning a list of AG brews in BeerSmith... Run into a bit of a problem though, as none of the recipes look correct. For example his guiness clone states an EBC of 203 but in BeerSmith it's coming out at...

    Help designing ag setup

Hi all After recently moving to AG I've encountered a couple of issues... 1. Mrs is going mental, house is not a brewery, etc 2. Water vapours, smell from boiler 3. Power from my cooker gas hob is only 2kw Current setup is a 40ltr ss with hop strainer and tap. Used for boiler and hlt, and...

cooling wort - hot and cold breaks....!?

Just noticed this on art of brewing site: I think this is saying not to cool in the boiler but to transfer this first into a FV leaving the hops behind? I don't do that, I just cool in the boiler and then run into the FV. Should I be putting into the FV first?

    Fermenting chest freezer target temperature

Hi All, chest freezer obtained and almost ready for a FV or 2, but after doing some reading I'm thinking that only 1 FV at a time is best with the STC sensor taped onto the side with a little insulation over the top of it? I would then target 20C mostly. I would really like to get 2 FVs into...

Safe to boil with grain bits in wort?

Have just sparged and got quite a few bits through during the process, is it safe to boil with these in, and then catch them in a bag when I drop to FV post boil? Cheers!

    VWP leaving a smell...

I've been leaving VWP in my FVs for a week at a time (to save on using fresh VWP everytime I need one!) but I'm finding it is becoming impossible to get rid of the smell it leaves behind. I have rinsed and rinsed and the smell seems to go until you leave it a bit, and then the smell is back! :(...

    2nd AG brewday - Orfy's hobgoblin

Brewed this yesterday, recipe below... has anyone else tried this one? I have found a few of Orfys hobgoblin recipies and I'm not sure which is the best!? How does it compare to the nobgoblin everyone seems to be doing on the forum? Brewday went straightforward really apart from when I tried...

Nottingham yeast... one pack or two!!?

Planning on AG#2 tomorrow, Orfy's hobgoblin recipe. Have noticed in beerSmith, it says to use 2 packets of yeast! Is this really necessary? This is one area I could really do with understanding better, I was going to make a starter and then read on here that you shouldn't when using dry...

Fermention Fridge, can you use a freezer instead?

Subject says it all, I'm looking for a cheap fridge on eBay but they're either too far away or too expensive so far. Can I use a freezer instead of a fridge, or is there a reason why this doesn't work? Cheers!
